Dawson and England

Dawson; gutted and confused with the fact he failed to win a cap pre-squad announcement during England's two friendlies. I bet he's a little (just a little) overjoyed with his call-up in place of the broken Ferdinand (last minute of training, proper merked). Which also means, pressure on Ledley who should be starting alongside Terry. I'm sure they will form a wonderful partnership, what with, you know, Terry...being a...such a nice bloke and stuff.

/cough

I guess Fabio must be wishing now (hindsight anyone?) that he did test Dawson, because if (and I hope not) we lose another CB during the competition, it's a baptism of fire for the lad if asked to participate. Although I'm sure Upson would get the go-ahead (it's based on experience not form - it's the England way). Still, another Spurs player travels. What's that now? Five? It's rhetorical. I can count.

Regardless of the back-door (ooh) entry to South Africa - congrats. It's deserved. The footballing Gods obviously want him there.

I bet his missus is gutted.

really happy for the guy. congrats daws.

on another note, i feel like losing Rio could make you more dangerous...i would absolutely prefer you having him in the middle instead of King for our showdown next saturday...

She will have to travel to SA.

Happy for Daws. He totally deserves to be there and hopefully gets a chance with other Spurs’ players to showcase to the world abundance of quality, fineness, and strength of the TH FC.

Maybe Jermaine Jenas should get himself ready, just in case.

On second thoughts...

Five, FIVE, when ever did a club get five in the World cup squad? Gonna tell me.

Jun 4, 2010 at 10:37 PM | Unregistered Commentersinger

Would England be better playing King and Dawson, tried and tested.

Jun 4, 2010 at 10:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterRob J

Really made up for the guy. Just hope it doesn't go pear shaped and effect his confidence for next season. Just think there could be a match whereby THFC are holding the line at one end and knocking them in at the other!!

Fabulous day for the Bionic Man. Well done and congrats. Let's hope he gets to win his first cap during the WC proper. BTW, does England still have any friendly matches left prior to the start of the WC?

Yeah, because Arsenal fans are famous for their sense of humour. Go on Giles, pull a funny face.

Jun 4, 2010 at 11:13 PM | Unregistered CommenterJep

It was fate.
5 spurs for england.
Lennon with #7 and Crouch with #9. Pure quality and class.

Yeah Giles/goonerjake/chelseacasual/Django, cause the poster is meant to be funny innit? You tiresome cyberstalking douchebag.

Heh Singer, Spurs had 5 players represent England in 1950. (60 years ago) and as Phil Thompson would say (with all the insinserity he can muster) I'M MADE UP FOR THE LAD. Except that I am made up for him. He plays with a smile on his face and deserves his call-up. This exposure will do the Spurs lads all the good in the World next season. How many have the Arse in Sth Africa with the Lions. Oh well they can always support the basket ball players. (Henry) !!!

Er no. Stop making a big moody pie out of nothing. It's all a bit of a downer, you staring at the screen cutting your arms with a razor blade. I've actually forgotten now which 'version' of you is meant to be the funny one.

Daws = Terry Butcher mk2. Can't wait to see him perform heroics, possibly bleeding profusely winning every tackle and beaming like a nutter. His tackles on Drogba and Van Nostrilboy have been up there with Woody's goal, Danny Rose and Crouch v City for me. 'Ave it!

genuinely sorry for rio. but if anyone deserves this chance it is MD. he has been incredible for spurs this season and capless or not lets hope he shines on the world stage and then captains spurs onto greater things!
good luck

Jun 5, 2010 at 1:57 AM | Unregistered Commenteryou wot/ who are ya?

Deapite all my antipathy to SAF, the prawn sandwhich brigade, and the cosy FA and Premieship old boys which support them, my heart goes out to Ferdinand , although l think he is well past his peak. In Dawson, however, if he gets his chance, there really is a "heart of oak" who will give his all for his country.

.

Not an England supporter so my first reaction to reading the article about Rio was "hah!" but when I got to the part about "Dawson on standby," I belted out "Woooo-hoooo, yeah, Daws!" People at work think I'm crazy. Poor ignorant bastards. The beautiful game is right there, waiting for them to embrace it, but, nooooo, just cause the local throwball franchise has won the superbowl six times, they feel compelled to be hostile to real football.

Anyhoo, now I'm seriously conflicted. I want Daws to do well, more than well, to pull off astonishing save the day feats that would put Roy of the Rovers comics to shame. Just Not In The First Match! Given Capello's form, I don't really even expect him to make the bench even though we all know the sensible thing to do is start Daws and King together. I'm hoping he goes with Terry who get's himself red carded, allowing the US to garner at least a point and opening the way for our boy.

Speaking of Terry getting himself sent off, have he and Ledley actually played in an England match together since the lippy monkey incident in May 2006?

Jun 5, 2010 at 4:23 AM | Unregistered Commenterziegemonster

He gets No 5 shirt now, I presume?

Jun 5, 2010 at 6:37 AM | Unregistered CommenterJohn snelgrove, hong Kong

It would make football sense to start Ledley and Daws agauinst USA.
Right, so that's not going to happen obviously.

Nice to see Heskey giving the lie to all those doubters who couldn't see the point of his inclusion.
We can now!

Five players from one club must be close to a record, but what if all five are on the pitch at the same time?
Anyone got odds for that happening? Might risk a pound on that. Or two.

Anyway with Emile in such devastating form Tom might make it yet.
Just keep well away from him you Spurs.

Jun 5, 2010 at 9:22 AM | Unregistered CommenterJimmyG2

On a massively selfish note me and my old man need to take our England shirts back for reprinting, we had Thfc king Lennon crouch defo coys on the back, looks like we're gunna have to squeeze a daws onto one of the arms now!

Jun 5, 2010 at 9:39 AM | Unregistered CommenterHotspurhaig

Ferdinand is the most over rated defender in England, will prove to be a blessing in disguise, Ledley wont have to marshal the back line all on his own now. Terry King and Dawson can hold it all together.

Come On England

Luka became a daddy!

Today (around 8 am in Zagreb, CR), in the 37th week of pregnancy, Luka’s wife Vanja gave birth (by cesarean procedure) to a healthy boy. The newborn (3240 gr and 51 cm long) and the mother are in stabile condition.
Congrats to Luka and Vanja.

Jun 6, 2010 at 5:26 PM | Unregistered Commenterbeetleblues

Ziegemonster, I feel your pain, except switch throwball for ice skating with sticks.

First Ballack, then Drogba and now Rio. I think this is some kind of Cunt Karma. Terry will go next, mark my words...

Jun 6, 2010 at 8:44 PM | Unregistered CommenterCanada Yid

Canada Yid you forgot about Robben so you might be on to something , if Robinho falls out then the Cunt Karma is no longer a myth.

Mixed feelings on this.

Obviously glad for Dawson and hopefully he will benefit from the experience and gain his first cap! But equally obviously concerned that he doesnt hurt himself or get too tired in time for the new season. Last thing I want is for him to go there kick his heels, dont play a single game, but come back tired.

The rumor of HR to Liverpool seems far-fetched, even for a naive like me. Must be slow news day to have such desperate inventing of news.

I've made the bold step of ordering CL football on cable for entire next season. First time having the pleasure of watching Spurs live (yay) on CL instead of the UEFA or Carling Cup during weekdays (live matches are 3am here) so here hoping my interest in watching Spurs in the CL would last until the Spring or beyond.

Having said that, I saw some matches of last season's CL for fun, and the intensity, the tactics and the sheer magnitude of the competition seems very daunting. We need people like Lennon, Modric, Dawson to show respect but no fear for the opposition.
