Bored of the Taarabt

Afternoon Sports fans.

If you haven't read my latest letter to Daniel Levy then shame on you. Just click here if you missed it.

As for this article, quick run-down of today's news. Nothing fancy, straight to the point.

Pav

He's obviously content with his form and he's now talking about the possibility of staying at the club and even shown some belief in challenging for 4th between now and the end of the season. Keep on scoring and it's win win. I still don't think Redknapp fancies him much, and he'll still claim the credit for the rejuvenated Russian in what was a clever reverse psychological trick to inspire the Russian back into first team duty, innit Harry? Even though desperation called upon his selection. I'm just happy it's positive translated quotes we are reading rather than sulking about being bullied/ignored/not allowed to leave. I still see him moving on in the summer. Him talking about staying just aids Spurs in adding an extra million or two onto his transfer fee.

Lennon

Might be back for the Chelsea game. This news has me salivating. Would give us an additional edge to be able to re-introduce Aaron back into the side. Realistically, might take a few games for him to get back to full match fitness which means Bale still has a massive job for us to do. But just imagine Bale on the left and Azza on the right. I'm salivating again. Just not out of my mouth.

Sandro

On his way, so say the Brazilians (press/clubs president). So I guess we have another not-the-finished-article player on his way as an alternative CM option. He's highly rated. So there's a good chance we'll follow tradition and half destroy his career. I jest. I think we can all agree that when dealing with South Americans, the transfer negations are always prolonged and ridiculous - jam-packed with conflicting quotes and denials. But the only thing we need to concern ourselves with relates to whether this is a huge gamble on our part considering there are better options (just too expensive) and if we are perhaps nothing more than a stepping stone for him to use as a shop window to then move onto Spanish or Italian football. Although France and Portugal has been a far more common destination for South Americans in the past for new arrivals. Guess we would feel blessed.

I'm shocked and surprised this is actually going to happen. But I'm going to hold on until he's at the Lodge holding up a Spurs shirt before I raise a glass. I hope he lives up to the hype. Talking of which...

Adel

We always over-rate our youth players, whether they are Academy or signed young. It's because we've had little success in promoting kids and developing them to first team squad members. We've got plenty of young players at Spurs that are highly rated, players who have enjoyed success in prestigious youth tournaments around the world and represented their club at youth levels. And yet no one knows just how good Bostock really is and if the rest of the 16-18 year olds genuinely have what it takes. Perhaps we expect too much too soon.

Taarabt, bless him, thinks he's the bollocks. Yes, he has the fancy tricks and is quite obviously confident and has self-belief in his abilities, but he's raw. He has produced some worthy cameos for QPR, but hasn't held down a place consistently. I just don't think he has the right attitude or temperament. It's easy to be critical of Spurs and say its another example of the player not being developed and looked after. But if the kid has no footballing brain - i.e. doesn't do the simple things first before the fancy stuff - then there's little hope of getting through to him. He never wanted to go on loan, so either Harry is lying when he says he rates him and just wanted rid, or Adel wants what Adel wants and nothing less.

He says he regrets signing for us and should have gone to Arsenal. I'm sure he'd have lasted 5 minutes there much like that other arrogant self-important twat, Pennant. Remember the hype surrounding him?

Off you trot Adel, you silly little boy. I know there's talk amongst some of the Spurs faithful that he should be thrown into the side and be allowed to express himself, but I've seen nothing yet to suggest he could handle the responsibility. He's all talk, no action. He's not bothered with football in this country. He'll do well in Spain no doubt, probably because he'll apply himself accordingly to suit his ego. Although there are plenty of elements in La Liga that are not to dissimilar to the EPL. He'll continue to blow hot and cold and frustrate for years to come.

That is all.

Best thing for me about the Pav interview, he says he just wants to play and for the team to do well and hopefully make top4. None of this 'we're gonna do it' bollocks, just a 'we'll see where we are come may' comment.

That's what I like to hear, not the bigging themselves up, just a 'let the football do the talking' type statement.

Can we get the others to start to learn russian at all? then perhaps some other cringeworthy quotes could conveniently be 'lost in translation'.

It's a crying shame what's happened with the Rat. The lad needed a very big stick waved in his general direction and a ruddy good thrashing whenever he got starry eyed. Hey ho.

Mar 18, 2010 at 1:47 PM | Unregistered CommenterWookieD

Never rated him. Wanted to, tried to, but for me just a show pony. Has some wonderful skills and touches and you can ask what could Wenger or Fergie had done with him? Probably not a lot. Luxury players are so 1980s.

Mar 18, 2010 at 1:52 PM | Unregistered CommenterShelf Side Warrior

I left a similar comment on Adel on the Standard article. The boy has a real issue with grasping that what managers want to see is application and vigour. He has shown neither, so why should he have his chance?

Lower league loaning is about learning graft and effort to go with the ability. It should aldso be remembered that many fans, me included, loved this kid and by mentioning the scum in the way he has it is a calculated fuck you to the fans.

Pav: who knows. If we get 4th then Levy and 'Arry will have to seriously think about the quality element and maybe needing to take it up another gear. By that I mean cheeky bids for people like Eto'o and the like, next level players. But I'd rather have him than Peter 'trap and sideways' Crouch.

That is all, The Boatang.

Mar 18, 2010 at 2:11 PM | Unregistered CommenterPLN

Adel has not managed to understand a single word any of his coaches have utterred. It's not a language barrier, it's a mental one. Simply, he is mental if he thinks he's any good in a team game. Luxury players? Don't they know theres still a recession on? All the best players are in the Cruyff mould these days...flair and passion with a bit of agression. Total football. All I get from Adel is Total Knobhead.

Mar 18, 2010 at 2:12 PM | Unregistered CommenterTrembly

The whole Adel thing is bollocks from the gooner/anti-spurs rag.

Don't believe it.

Mar 18, 2010 at 2:13 PM | Unregistered CommenterdRb

Please don't do the forsaken lover bit, now that Adel's burnt his bridges. Remember a certain young C. Ronaldo some years back? How much stick us non-Manure fans gave that boy for his silly step-overs and stupid losses of possession? Our boy Adel is on a par with a young Ronaldo, talent-wise, but developing that talent takes support, trust and playing time - something we at Spurs have failed to provide for young talents regularly and miserably over the last 10 years at least. Adel won't be playing for any of the big four in Spain next season - but our decision to not develop his undoubted talent will just as undoubtedly come back and bite us in the ass.

why does everyone insist on calling taatabt an unproductive show pony? Highly skilful players in his mould always get blamed when they"shock horror" lose the ball; why are the same people not as displeased when abundantly less skilful players lose the ball whether it be to lack of invention or a mis-placed pass. just because a player loses the ball whilst performing with "shock horror" invention, using a trick or 2 to beat his man, does not make him a liability. All players lose posession. Taarabt has scored 3 in 9 for morroco, and 9 this season for QPR. He hasnt been in and out of their team; although he hasn`t played every game, he has consistently performed for them on a regular basis. England will never win the Wiorld cup while we still insist on berating players for daring to tap into their own sense of creative freedom. This is a grass roots problem, starting with fathers at school games shouting from the touchline for their son to "cut out the effing fancy stuff", to countless Premier League and English National Mangers wringing every last ounce of creativity from our English prospects. Are we that short sighted and ignorant that we don`t see the proof on the world stage? Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Holland etc, all countries that adopt a Philosophy of Football as an Art, entertainment and creative expression, these are the countries that succeed. Taraabt is raw, yes he loses the ball, but so do half the england team countless times against weak opposition in the past. Anyone who dismisses Adel as a one trick pony are fools, jumping on the bandwagon. In my opinion, it`s pure jealousy; "How dare he be so talented, how dare he try and dribble instead of keeping possession with a backwards pass?" And no, I`m not sleeping with him...

Mar 18, 2010 at 2:24 PM | Unregistered CommenterOllOllOlly

come on folks! Adel is a gem in the making..... have you not seen that goal he scored against preston,
do you not remember cameos against west spam, chelski, PSV he came on and only then did we start to believe we had a chance of winning that game dont we love mavericks like this at the lane? he is easily the best dribbler at the lane since Ginola & he actually reminds me of Gazza! I will now give up in trying to convince the spurs faithful that he is the special one but I have to say I think for the sake of football everyone should want this young talent to play in the premiership and make good . . . Even if it is not in our great lily white shirt.

AND WHATS THIS LACK OF VIGOUR? HE IS OFTEN THE MOST VIGOROUS AND AGRESSIVELY ATTACKING PLAYER ON THE PITCH!! I SUPPOSE YOU WERE THE KID WITH NICKY BUTT POSTERS ON HIS BEDROOM WALL AS A KID. DAVID BATTY WAS A GREAT FOOTBALLER TOO WASNT HE, REALLY INSPIRED A GENERATION OF YOUNG KIDS. ITS FOOTBALL, AN ART YOU FOOLS. IT ANNOYS ME, ITS THE ONLY PROFESSIONAL ARENA IN WHICH THE UNTALENTED FOOL WHO "TRYS HIS BEST" IS REWARDED, AND THE TALENTED MAVERICK IS TREATED AS LUXURY. HOW CAN TALENT BE A LUXURY? I CAN UNDERSTAND IF HE WAS PULLING OFF TRICKS, BEATING EVERY OPPOSING PLAYER, BUT RUNNING TOWARDS HIS OWN GOAL; THAT WOULD BE UNPRODUCTIVE, YES BUT HES NOT. ANY PROGRESSIVE MENTALITY ON THE PITCH IS GOOD IN MY BOOKS, AND IF IT ANNOYS YOU, YOU ARE WATCHING THE WRONG GAME. FOOTBALL FR ME IS NOT ABOUT WINNING; ITS ABOUT ENTERTAINGMENT, SUBLIME SKILL AND CULTURE.

rooney as an example. yeah he's scoring loads etc. and everyone can appreciate his work rate, movement and passing ability. But come on he was way more exciting to watch when he was at everton jnking round players for fun

Mar 18, 2010 at 2:39 PM | Unregistered CommenterFox Mulder

How many times do we have to loan out players whilst other highly rated 20 year olds are doing it for the club and showing natural good consistent development? Adel might have skills and if so then he's in the wrong country, but that's hardly Tottenhams fault is it?

Mar 18, 2010 at 2:43 PM | Unregistered CommenterShelf Side Warrior

I agree with the spirit of OLLO ... , but haven't seen enough of the Ab to judge him. Have heard more then enough to judge him though ...

But thats tabloid stuff so maybe not really fair on the lad to judge him on that ...

Mar 18, 2010 at 2:50 PM | Unregistered CommenterTommyHarmer

@ BELGIAN SPUR. thats the problem mon amis, most of the press who write this drivel havent even seen him play. he`s not like rooney in terms of getting back to left back positions for the team, but if he loses the ball he is right on their heels snapping away to get the ball back, and for his goal recently he ran box to box to score. bundles of energy. he wrongly has this repuation of a passionless trickster, who mulls around waiting for the ball, like a raw Viduka. NOT true at all. The only valid critisism is that maybe he does try too much in his own half, but who cares. I have more faith in him performing a trick on the edge of his own penalty area than I do in jenas reciving the ball in a similar area, and putting more pressure on team-mates with a simple lateral pass

Mar 18, 2010 at 3:12 PM | Unregistered CommenterOllOllOlly

If he was good enough he'd be on our bench and not at QPR.

It's romantic to dream he has what it takes but just because he does have ability doesn't mean he's the next big thing.

Mar 18, 2010 at 3:39 PM | Unregistered CommenterKilljoy

But we said the same thing about Pav , if he was good enough he would have been on the pitch ...

He wishes he signed for Arse ... well the plague to you then mr Ab.

Mar 18, 2010 at 3:47 PM | Unregistered Commenterbelgian spur

I dont recall many shouts from the stands for players like: Ginola, Galvin, Hoddle, Gazza, etc etc to cut out the fancy stuff? I am also sure players like Best, Marsh, George, Morgan,Robben,Matthews etc did not get shouted at that much either for showing off their raw talent. My very close freind Big Julie possesses very fancy sexual technique and yes sometimes she lets it slide out but hey we dont stop her from showing off.

Mar 18, 2010 at 3:56 PM | Unregistered CommenterBig Johna

Nobody can deny that Adel is gifted and talented, and at times, a pleasure to watch. His problem is that he does not appear to be able to learn. Or maybe it is an inability to listen and act on what he has heard.

He has had a succession of managers at QPR, almost all of whom he has played very well for in the first 6 games and then drifted out of favour. This proves that he can turn it on and play well for the team when he wants to. Invariably the managers get despondent and fed up with his attitude and it must be incredibly frustrating to have such a gifted player seemingly not bother to play every week. In Harry's case it meant Adel went, in QPR's case it has ended up with the managers going.

I think we can ignore the Gooner nonsense for what it is - nonsense. He's obviously saying that as he's fed up that he hasn't been made the star of our first team. He would have faired no better at the Emirates. Wenger does not suffer players that do not work for the team as has already been mentioned.

I'd like to see us hold on to him and develop him as a player and a person. In a few years time when he's grown up a bit and lost the arrogance of youth, he could be an absolute diamond of a player and I'd love to have him playing for us when/if that does happen.

Mar 18, 2010 at 3:58 PM | Unregistered CommenterFanofTottie

The point is, if he has no application, respect and discipline then who the f*ck does he think he is to expect to be treated like the finished article? He is obviously wasn't doing something right (when at Spurs) and failed to impress in training. Much like Pav's supposed attitude, which then changed which then led to games. So they say.

Compare him to other talents of similar age and look at the difference. They shut up and get on with it. He brags and brags and brags. The kid is a dick.

Mar 18, 2010 at 4:02 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

can we sign johna's friend big julie? - i hear she's good in the box and a better header than sandra even

Mar 18, 2010 at 4:05 PM | Unregistered Commenterleonardo

Just to be clear on something - if there is a player I'd love to see succeed at Spurs its Adel - if only because of his obvious natural ability. He's a showman, the concern is whether he has the brain to go with the tricks and yes, he has arguably not had the chance to prove himself but there has to be an underlying reason. Because for him to be called a genius is either some form or patronising joke or a polite way of saying he looks great but has no substance to his play.

You can almost imagine him being Gascoginesque with a touch of the Cantonas. The issue for me is that if he is this or potentially is this - he wouldn't be farmed out to QPR. We seem to be pretty much unconcerned about him regardless of Harrys soundbites.

Something somewhere is not right. There is probably not enough at the moment to conclude if its us or the player.

Mar 18, 2010 at 4:07 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

it doesn't matter really. the character that he seem to be means that after a coupleo f good seasons in our first team he'd be sucking his agent dry to get him a move to barca/madrid/man utd

Mar 18, 2010 at 4:21 PM | Unregistered CommenterFox Mulder

We do seem to have loaned out more of our players this season than before Harry showed up. Why is that?

I hate to make this sound like we should copy Arsenal's ideas, however, In my opinion (and only if we get 4th this season) we should bring Adel and co back and play them in the Carling Cup to give them higher level experience. Even use them in the first few rounds of the FA cup too, with a strong bench just in case. Those youth development tactics have worked for the scum for the most part, haven't they?

Or maybe we should just look to loan out to Premier League opposition instead?

Whatever, I don't think our youth development is as good as it could be, but I also don't want to risk kids in the PL. It's quite a dilemma.

Mar 18, 2010 at 4:44 PM | Unregistered CommenterCanada Yid

OK, for everyone who loves Jimmy Taarbat and is banging on about him here... Which of the current Spurs midfield would you drop to accommodate this bundle of misunderstood 'boy genius'... Modders? Thudd? Lennon? Krancjar? Wilson?

Adel was never more than a 10 minute last-gasp box of tricks that you threw on when the other team were knackered and every other option had failed. For each time he skimmed one clunking centre-back he got robbed by another... Or missed a great opportunity to release another of our players when in a better position so that he could blaze the ball into row Z of the Park Lane then strut away like he'd done something 'ard.

If we are seriously talking about taking on the likes of Inter in the CL next season, would you prefer to do it with Adel who's bagged a few in the Championship and got 3 for Morrocco against the likes of mighty Togo & Gabon (The latter in the 88th minute when Gabon were already 3-0 up) or Luka & co.?

A lovely romantic idea having him at Spurs, but for impact, I'd rather have Danny Rose on the bench. He works hard and doesn't want to play for Ar5ena1.

Mar 18, 2010 at 4:53 PM | Unregistered CommenterMes

I'm sorry but we cant be rid of this skid soon enough.

We tend to forgive flair players, particularly when they're young (if honest but unspectacular Jamie O'Hara said the same thing I dont think there'd be anyone saying to give him a break (and there can be no comparison with his recent comments)). But if he does come good you know he's the sort who'll declare playing in the Champions League for Manchester United is his dream after five above average performances. In fact he's already done it. Though watching Barcelona decapitate Stuttgart last night I struggle to think of how that team could be greatly enhanced by a QPR squad player.

He's the new Zidane? His agent said that and I beg to differ. A distinctly average Premier League player (say Kevin Doyle or Fraizer Campbell) will flourish in the Championship. Good (if not quite top class) players such as Andy Reid or Kwenye Jones will become Steve Gerrards and Wayne Rooneys of the division. Put simply if Adel had the ability he claims (and some believe) he would have torn apart the championship, regardless of any mitigating factors. Could you seriously imagine a player the quality of Ronaldo (at any age) spending a year in a lower league and having so little to show for it, not to mention regularly failing to make the team.

Regularly (generally when things go wrong) fans call for players who are proud to wear the shirt. He never will be.

Mar 18, 2010 at 5:00 PM | Unregistered CommenterHayes

Reason for more loans? No reserve team. It's the new policy of development I guess, for the younger ones.

Mar 18, 2010 at 5:29 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

Taraabt didn't actually say he "wished he'd signed for Arsenal" in the report I read. The daily Mail shitbags making mischief as usual. He said his Arse mates told him not to go to Spurs. No surprise there. Coys!

Perhaps the sugar on my WeetBix has gone to my brain, but I want to see both Pav and Adel stay. Pav because for me, he has that something that I like, I think it's sticking the ball in the back of the net. But I think he could use a few angry pills before he goes out there. He's just a bit too apologetic...

Adel only because I feel optimistic. I like the idea of him on the bench coming on for 10 minutes when we're already a couple up, Lennon/Bale/Modric/Defoe are on a card or we want to protect/save them. Who knows, 2 up could be 4 up.

But I get something of a tingle at the thought of Bale left Lennon right, Wilson and Modders in the middle of a stretched opposition midfield. OK, so it's more than a tingle, and it will be a full blown Jenas if it happens at Wembley.

Mar 18, 2010 at 10:12 PM | Unregistered CommenterDr Oyvind

Oh, and I'm pretty sure Adel meant Arsenal de Sarandi in Argentina. Not to be confused with Arsenal de Fuckingwankers in England. So we should give him a break - of the fibula and tibula - in the just Arsenal fashion. In less than 5 minutes I've changed my mind. He can piss off and we'll give Bostock a go instead.

" Tarrabt the terrible " !!! ..Definately a guilty pleasure, would agree that his type (Driiblers) Are very much a dieing
breed in our game now. I too always would kick over a drink or lunge forwad in my seat , in excitement when he
would get on the ball. I reckon that if we had the right finances and coaching tools he could of been of more use
to us. However it is what it is...IF he was the new MESSIah , then Qpr would not be languishing as they are. Call it
biased but just the romance alone would mean that Id have Crouch back out on loan to ......fkni anyone!!!! and
give Tarrabt an advanced attackin role....huhhh??? i hear u say. The same imaginary one that was excused for
Keane ...i mean even if he couldnt dribble past three players he must be of some use. He represents the type of
player that would never play for Harry (Renapp should be lucky to have a poor mans zidane)Guess Harry's not verygood with impulse ,subs or tactical variation. As long as we are rid of JJ and Crouch Id be happy....they make my toes curl

Good afternoon, Happy Fool's Day!!

A woman wanted a divorce. She went to the courthouse and appeared before the judge.
The judge reviewed her petition and asked, "Do you have grounds?"
The woman looked at him quizzically and said, "Grounds? Well, yes, your Honor, we do have about an acre and a half."
"No," said the judge, "What I mean is, do you have a grudge?"
The bewildered woman replied, "No, we just have a carport."
The judge was becoming frustrated. "You're not getting the point," he said. "Does he beat you up?"
The woman replied, "Oh, no I'm up at 6:30 and he doesn't get up until 7:00."
The judge was exasperated. He looked at the woman and asked: "Look, lady, why are you here? What reason do you have for wanting a divorce?"
The woman replied, "Because my husband and I have a communication problem."

Happy April Fool's Day!
