Really Mad is our Wilson

Palacios to Madrid? It's an exclusive apparently, with The Sun running the story that Wilson would one day like to play for Real Madrid. And one day I'd like to return to the white island, Ibiza, and dance my arse off on the terrace at Space (although ideally would prefer to be part of the chemical casualty mess that is/was DC10). But that's not going to happen because DC10 has shut-down thanks to the corrupt police force and government. But that doesn't mean I won't return to Ibiza. I'm sure I will. Just wont be able to go exactly where I want because the choice won't be available to me. Much like Wilson probably won't join Madrid, but might end up at another club that plays CL consistently.

Look, let's be honest here. If he rediscovers the form he had prior to the death of his brother, someone bigger will attempt to pluck him from our grasp. It always happens. It's big fish eat little fish. On current form, and believe me he is imperative to our backbone, he's Premier League class, international class but not world class. Not to say Madrid don't sign their fair share of not-great players, but at the moment we can sleep peacefully about it. He won't  be moving on anytime soon.

He's ambitious. He obviously has much self-belief and it's a shame not all our players think the same way because then the collective eagerness to be better might pull the whole club forwards. And if we move forwards, enough to finish 4th, then Wilson wouldn't have to move.

The Sun have lifted the quotes from this interview here.

And in fact (thanks to a part translation from Cule-Spur), Wilson actually states the following:

"I'll keep working hard so that I'll soon have the possibility of playing for a bigger club."

Which is probably more worrying (if you're that way inclined) than the quote from the tabloid that reads as follows:

"I am really happy at Tottenham but I will continue working for a future move to a bigger club"

If anyone can translate the interview in full, please do. Other bits translated - from Cule-Spur - include Wilson talking about the anger he felt after his performance against Arsenal earlier in the season. He states he would love to play for Real Madrid (no shocker) and before you crucify the guy, he does say that he's never thought about playing for a bigger English club because he's very happy at Spurs.

Obviously, without question, if any player at the club no longer wants to be at the club, then show them the door. If the time comes, then take the pin and move it slowly towards the effigy. It does make me shake my head though how footballers don't stop to think how their comments might be perceived and latched onto and then possibly have their quotes distorted (not that they have in this case) and cause an ever so slight air of despondency. All quite unnecessary really.

Wilson - you play for Spurs. Talk up Spurs.

But regardless of all this non-eventfulness, sing up for The Panther and the team. Don't let the bed-bugs bite. This will be forgotten about tomorrow.

You said it. On current form, simply not good enough to be tempting any of the big boys just yet.... Haven't Real already got Diarra anyway? Swap anyone??

Don't leave us Wilson, please don't leave us. Just look at what happened to all the players that have recently left us.............. Berbatov & Keane to name but 2, they lost their mojo and things have never been the same for them since. Things are never the same when you leave the lilywhite shirt behind.

I think Jimmy Greaves said it best..............

"The biggest regret of my whole football career was leaving White Hart Lane in 1970....... My interest in football weakened after that. I was heartbroken"

David Ginola: "White Hart Lane was always a place where I felt I belonged"

See Wilson, people love Tottenham, it's more than just a club, it's a beacon of greatness, a shining football oasis that people get entwined with their heart. It is the light, it is lilywhite.

Don't go Wilson.

Please.............

Lets sell him to portsmouth for £10m and buy him back in 12 months for £20m.

Can't blame the lad tbh, he shows ambition and for players from his side of the world (south/middle americas) Real is considered to be the real deal. Actually for players from all sides of the world Real is the final point.

As long as he performs for Spurs and plays for the team instead of for a future transfer well then there is no problem .

I always ask people who whine about transfers this : If another firm in a sunny country would offer to double your wage for the same kind of job but with more visibility and glamour what would you do ?

In his case they even speak the same language and he has not the burden of abandoning his homecountry as most of us would have.

Love of a club exists but it won't stop players from moving to the FIFA top 10 clubs , not if you have the ambition it takes to become the best that you can be (or is that ment to read : the richest ?)

Papers will print anything when they have nothing of real interest to write about. Keep doing the business W.P. and soon there will be nowhere bigger to go. As far as I am concerned THFC are the biggest and I say this after supporting the team for more than 50 years.

Google language tools comes up with the following, note that it's the interviewer who suggests Real:

We hopped in the car of Wilson Palacios. It's a gray late-model BMW station wagon. It is luxury. Wilson has three years of living in England and says he knows very well the streets and that did not cost him learn to deal with the rudder to the right, but ... "My first days in Birmingham had to ride a taxi," he recalls.

Inside the car is only heard bachata, reggae and punta. Suddenly one of the songs sounded the National Team.

Wilson wearing gray jeans, a shirt the same color brand Giorgio Armani, Dolce and Gabbana jacket and black tennis.

We walked several kilometers on the ship and came to a place called Luthon, near the area where he lives in north London. "We are far from the center, a little over an hour," he explains.

He parked, walked two blocks and came to a coffee, asked for three cappuccinos and sat down to begin the interview. Thus began the conversation with the Wizard Palaces in London.

It was an odyssey to chat with you.
Ha, ha, ha. Thank you very much for coming out here and the least I could do was to serve them. I know the effort you have made is great. I feel very happy.

What makes Wilson living alone in London?, How to pass your days around here?
All quiet. I'm used to being alone. My days are very relaxed. Step into the house training, sometimes we come by here for coffee or going where a fellow who lives near me, when he was Mexico's Gio Dos Santos spent much time together because we are good friends.

What do you do in your spare time when you are at home?
Tucked away on the Internet. I see way too much television and playing PlayStation or Nintendo Wii. Also because I have to cook my own food.

Indeed, Gio sent you greetings, as we saw in Turkey and spoke very highly of you.
Ah, thanks. With Gio did a nice friendship and I hope you go well in Istanbul.

What did you do to succeed in one of the best leagues in the world?
Thank God I have done very well during these three years, but one as a player always wants more and so I have dedicated myself to stay focused on my work like crazy to get better. I know that most things come and I must be prepared.

Three years here, what was the bitterest moment you are living in England?
It was when I was playing for the Birmingham and there was a change of coach. I remember those days that suddenly stopped being owner and does not even take me in the squad, but now came the opportunity to go to Wigan.

When you left Honduras for the first time you imagined you were going to turn into what now are you?
One life should be clear that good things cost and suffering must always be to achieve important things. He touched me suffer a lot when I walked from one place to another, but here I am succeeding and trying to get ahead. Some people are lucky and it costs nothing, but I'm one of those people.

Did they ever thought there was nothing to come to Europe?
Clear. When walking from machine to machine and watched it I could not stay in any I despaired, but I was always clear that it was not because of capacity issues. Everything goes through other administrative factors. I was disappointed, but I was always strong.

And how did you manage to keep calm?
I was in constant contact with my family and that really helped me to stay with some tranquility.

Tell us a little about your experiences in the Birmingham and Wigan?
They were very good and helped me to grow. In Birmingham I was treated very well and was very nice to Wigan. When he arrived Maynor was much better and also the coach we had was to death with us, Professor Steve Bruce.

You say in England your father's name is Steve Bruce?
Wilson loose a laugh that is heard everywhere, and then he answers:
"Professor Bruce has been wonderful to me, all life I thank you all you did for me, is one of the best coaches I've had."

The great figures of the Premier recognize your work ...
Clear. Thank God I was able to earn status in the League and this is due to the work I do game to game. Everyone respects me and that's important.

Do you feel you're ready to step higher in England. Signing for Manchester United, Liverpool or Chelsea?
All come in time. So far I am very happy at Tottenham Hotspur and I'm happy here.

When he signed for Tottenham all thought that you would go to Manchester United. Were there options?
They said many things, but nothing was concrete. I am happy to come to Tottenham because here I felt very good. I have tried their best. I will continue working to soon open the possibility of going to a bigger club.

Sounds dared to say that Wilson can play for Real Madrid or Barcelona?
Not at all. That would be great. Working intensively to improve and if one day there is the possibility it would be beautiful. I'd love to play for Real Madrid.

Your brother Johnny told me that you since you got up very early small to show Premier League games. And now you play it you ...
It's true. I had always been a fan of the Premiership, with Johnny we got up early to watch the games and look, now I'm playing here is a dream to me is fulfilling. Play at any stage where I play now, before it looked only in my dreams.

A question, what was the worst game you've played in England?
I'm happy with all matches in which I participated, but there was a match against Arsenal last season I played badly. I remember I lost the ball and then we scored a goal. I felt anger, but in soccer you're always not good.

And the best?
Always against Arsenal in the same season, but the game we did at home. That day I felt like I went flying.

What does it feel to face players like Lampard, Gerrard, Fabregas, Torres, Rooney ... all these figures?
It gives me motivation. I've never been afraid or I will have at hand, playing against these players a reason to go with piles fastened during games. The issue here is that one should not be overlooked, one as a Honduran citizen can stand up to these great figures.

And Wilson Palacios is recognized on the street, you stop to ask for an autograph or a picture?
Yes The only thing people here are more relaxed, not like in Honduras that are more emotional, but it is still nice to receive all the affection of the people.

Were you able to bring your family to share with you in London?
Yes They have come over here. In December were all passing me the Christmas and New Year. The problem was when it fell back, would not let me.

IN SHORT WITH "THE WIZARD"

Did you dream to be champion in England?
Clear. In this tournament we are going very well, but the thing is not easy. Hopefully one day I can celebrate.

What has been the toughest team to face?
Chelsea when we play on their home floor. It's a crushing machine.

"At the beginning stages scared you full?
No, quite the contrary. I like to play to packed stadium. That motivates me more.

Does your best friend in Tottenham?
Aurelio goalkeeper Gomez. We get along very well. Before it was Gio, but left the club.

WILSON'S VOICES

"I'm thinking of bringing me to a family member not to continue living alone in London. It's hard to be alone."

"There are many players Hondurans who have the ability to play in the Premier League. All in the mind."

"I was never scared to play in England. I never thought that would not succeed. I set to work and have achieved important things."

Maybe he meant to say he would love to appear on Strictly Come Dancing but it got lost in translation.?
Professional players really should be given education on how to talk to the press and remember they are ambassadors for the clubs that pay their rather large salaries. At this crucial time of the season he should be emphasising the strength at Spurs and show a united front. He can engineer a move to a bigger club in the summer.

i dont really believe he said this thing about playing 4 a bigger club, but he might have said it would be a dream 2 play 4 madrid and 2 be honest they are the no1 club in the world when u take into account everything. But obviously the sun is filled with dirty scummy gooner reporters that they have blown everything out of proportion the dirty rotten cunts with a paedo 4 a manager CUNTS. But having said that although i believe he is a great player 4 us AND YES HE IS WORLD CLASS AT WHAT HE DOES no player is bigger than the club. But 2 b honest it would break my heart if he left just like when berba left us cos he is something we havent had for about 20 years or more.

@Bringbackmabbutt - unfortunately they might twig when he signs the contract as Jenas is far too stupid to be able to spell Palacios.
Or if he manages they will defo twig when he starts his 1st game and they notice he cant tackle, his passing is shit and he's always caught out of postion.

ha ha ha ha !!!! what a shame each and every year some player coming from spurs says they think spurs r just another small club in big city and they want to move on to a bigger club with some history and fanbase.know that proves even spurs players know they r a medicore club and only spurs fans think they r in same class as manu , arsenal or liverpool and nowdays even chelsea r much bigger club than them ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!! no wonder spurs fans r mocked as deluded donkeys ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!

Its simple, watch us play with Jenas and Tommy H in the middle, we get murdered in midfield.
But when its Tommy H and Wilson in the middle we are stronger because Wilson sits and stays to break up play, i know some people dont like Tommy H but he is the best of a bad bunch to play besides Wilson, plus dont forget Tommy H never got a look in for England when he played next to Jenas, but next to Wilson he gets a callup.

Jenas can not pass the ball forward, watch him! he passes side ways or backwards and a good percentage of those times he gives it away.

Jenas can not tackle, he tries but he either gets knocked off the ball himself of fouls the player.

Jenas can not shoot

Jenas can not head the ball and hardly even tries too.

all of these things are what a central midfielder should be doing!

Jenas would NOT get into a top 4 team end of

as a squad player sure why not, but do we really want a squad player on upwards of £50k a week?

I'm sure, like marmite, some spurs fans love him while others hate him, but i think the time has come where he's more hated then loved, he has been at WHL long enough now to have made his mark and become great but its just not happened and with all the will in the world i dont see it happening

Mar 10, 2010 at 12:34 PM | Unregistered CommenterSuperspurs

To be honest, I think this it was fairly standard response from Wilson. Most kids in Honduras aren't dreaming of playing for Spurs I'm sure. He's probably had R Madrid in his mind since he was a youngster.. It was just an answer during an interview - in Spanish.

It's not like he's actually angling for a move. He knows he's not Ferdando Torres. Pay it no mind chaps. Brace the main sail, steady as she goes and all that.

In any case, regardless of what Wilson says (and what we think), if R Madrid came in for any of our 'names' we'd struggle to keep them anyway... galling though that is.

By the way, I might have spelt 'galling' wrong, but it seems unimportant.

Mar 10, 2010 at 12:46 PM | Unregistered CommenterJames147

Ok the interviewers question is: ¿Suena atrevido decir que Wilson puede jugar en el Real Madrid o el Barcelona?

which meas "does it sound too bold to say that wilson could play for real madrid or barcelona" (i.e.are you good enough?)

response: "No, para nada. Eso sería maravilloso. Trabajo intensamente para poder mejorar y si un día se da la posibilidad sería hermoso. Me encantaría jugar para el Real Madrid."

translation: "no, not at all. that'd be great (ie. if people thought I were good enough). I work really hard in order to better myself and if, one day, the possibility should maybe arise, it would be nice. I would love to play for real madrid"

The tone in spanish implies that this is very much hypothetical and not a cristiano ronaldo "it is my dream". Nothing to worry about. The rest of the interview is quite good too. Seems like a nice bloke

Surely we want all our players to be of that level where they're just good enough to play for a non-CL league side, and no better. They certainly shouldn't have ambitions and be looking to improve.

Having said that, he'll surely need to sort out his passing before he gets that move.

I keep on reading Jenas is a marmite player, some love him and some hate him. I dont think this is true really. I think some (most) hate him and others think this is a bit harsh. I have never met a single fan who loves Jenas, just some who think he puts in a shift and is a bit underrated. The true marmite player is Huddlestone, although as he matures the numbers who make Hoddle comparisons seems to diminish

Mar 10, 2010 at 2:13 PM | Unregistered CommenterHayes

Guys, don't worry. It wasn't exactly easy to prise him from Wigan was it? .. and that was Wigan. Obviously as a Spurs fan I have no shame in saying that if Real come knocking, then he is gone. Look, I am glad he has ambition, it can only make him a better player - because he is an honest player. Jenas is a player with no ambition. I Wilson does leave, he will have my blessing, and I will wish him good luck - apart from when he visits with his teammates in a Champions League game...

I'm a big fan of Real Madrid as well as Spurs and I don't see Real going for Sandro. We already have Lassana Diarra, Mahamadou Diarra and Fernando Gago. And although Xabi Alonso is not a holding player he is a deep lying central midfielder. DM is not Real's priority, Franck Ribiery is.
