Slating Spurs

For people who dislike blogs for being inane and irreverent and unprofessional, feel free to ignore our ilk and make do with real journalists who get paid to write insightful editorials.

I suggest you follow Brian Reade of the Daily Mirror. Never a word out of place.

What a guy.

Reader Comments (43)

Read that this morning, was going to comment but you have to register to do that. Seems they are having a tough time making up transfer rumours for us recently, poor lambs.

Fuck that extreme left wing anti-Semitic nutcase

Jul 11, 2009 at 1:25 PM | Unregistered Commenteranonymous

Brian Reade is a fuckwit of the highest order if that bile was to be taken as testament to the mans essence. I've read a lot of utter shite this window but that is by far the most abhorrent of the lot.

Jul 11, 2009 at 1:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterTrembly

Yeah, I read that this morning as well, complete gibberish.

He got paid for that, anyone who bought a copy of the daily mirror today is a mug.

I wonder if this is the guy that broke the Dave* O'Hara story last year, It was definately a mirror writer

*Can't remember the actual first name he used

Jul 11, 2009 at 1:38 PM | Unregistered CommenterSteven

Was that supposed to be funy. Lets hope our Muslim cousin put a fucking fatwa on his head for using their lords name in vain

Jul 11, 2009 at 1:43 PM | Unregistered CommenterKosher Cowboy

a lorry full of horse manure delivered to his daily mirror door should do the trick..........

how these wankers get jobs as journalists is a joke on the education system and in the press

(say in german voice)..............arsehole!

Jul 11, 2009 at 1:45 PM | Unregistered Commenterbilliospur

Twattish article by Reade who is just having a dig for the sake of it without actually having anything valid or funny to say.

Jul 11, 2009 at 1:54 PM | Unregistered CommenterOops

madam.....if you do a left at the lights and first right you will see a building with Daily Mirror written on it

in there.....you will find a dung beetle scampering for his lunch

Jul 11, 2009 at 2:02 PM | Unregistered Commenterbilliospur

All of the writers on your 'blogs of note' list, especially mine of course are better writers than most of the tabloid press. Obviously we are more knowledgeable and well informed and have passion and genuine interest.
We have also paid our dues over the years and if we want to have a crack at our club we have the rightto do so. Its usually in order to help improve things, well sometimes.
Most of their stuff comes from fansites anyway, so its second hand and badly written.

Jul 11, 2009 at 2:06 PM | Unregistered CommenterJimmyG2

Newspapers, tabloids are good for rumours and the odd sensationalised match report, but most of the editorials are ridiculously biased in favour of some demented opinion the author believes to be funny. Reade is having a cheap shot for no other reason than wanting to have a pop at Spurs and Redknapp. It's sad.

Jul 11, 2009 at 2:09 PM | Unregistered Commenterecho

all done in the ..........best possible taste?.......upset soldiers.....insult to schnappers....... palacios........and probably breaking incitement rules......so as he sits their in his suit at lunch prior to this edition he thinks ." I know what ill do....ill become a sex toy"

Jul 11, 2009 at 2:20 PM | Unregistered Commenterstamford hill cowboy

Read that this morning. Shocking stuff. Not just for the obvious reasons, but for the fact he has nothing of any significance to say about anything. Is he taking the piss out of Harry and his tapping up? Out of the fact Spurs haven't signed anyone? It makes no sense. What kind of an editor even approves this shit?

Jul 11, 2009 at 2:40 PM | Unregistered CommenterWest Stand Bagel

We have a good sense of humour, but there is nothing to laugh about with this. Its wrong on so many levels. Don't mind someone taking the piss but that's just TAKING THE PISS.

Jul 11, 2009 at 2:42 PM | Unregistered CommenterPlayer

Spooky, stick Reade on your hitlist alongside Norman from the Evening Standard.

Jul 11, 2009 at 2:44 PM | Unregistered CommenterShelf Side Warrior

First time poster, article was a disgrace. Love this blog!

Jul 11, 2009 at 2:45 PM | Unregistered CommenterHampshireyid

Utter cock. Exactly what I expect from the Daily Mirror.

Jul 11, 2009 at 2:48 PM | Unregistered Commenterjj

i also read his article , what utter crap but remember he needed something to write so he could get paid , this whole country is full of people who talk s**t everyday from the very top down , what chance does the human race really have ? about as much as tottenham winning the prem this year lol
coys

Jul 11, 2009 at 2:49 PM | Unregistered Commenteradam

Absolute disgrace of an "article". Religiously insensitive, insensitive to Spurs and Wilson Palacios, the fans, a completely abhorrent piece of so-called journalism. He left no stone unturned there.

Jul 11, 2009 at 3:03 PM | Unregistered CommenterMysteriousStranger

And yet you wouldn't find the spineless piece of shit enter into an actual dialogue with us fans to explain his comments. If you, Brian, happen to read blogs such as these to see what sort of reaction you can garner, then I challenge you to reply to this post and explain why you think it is ok to

a) wish a truly barbaric death such as beheading on some one
b) make light of the tradegy surrounding Wilson Palacios' bother
c) provoking a largely peace loving faith
d) belittling the countless individual tradegies of our boys in the armed services; all the countless people who have lost friends, collegues and family memebers.

Lets see what possible justification you can offer.

Jul 11, 2009 at 3:22 PM | Unregistered CommenterKing Yid

Some comedy can be downright evil and yet we laugh at it. Whether its racist or close to the knuckle in other ways. Stand-up comedians do it all the time. I think when some people attempt satirical commentary they fail because there is no actual punchline at the end of it. Was this printed in todays Daily Mirror?

Jul 11, 2009 at 3:28 PM | Unregistered CommenterOracle

Looks like the Daily Mirror has re-submitted the article - with no change - to News Now.

Jul 11, 2009 at 4:10 PM | Unregistered CommenterWest Stand Bagel

There is one change, they've stuck an ad in the middle of it. Unbelievable Jeff!

Jul 11, 2009 at 4:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterPLN

Hope the fucker gets dragged under a bus on his way to work on Monday; a slow and painful death please...

So they see more traffic going into the article and re-publish with an advert. Spooky, you should claim commission.

"Fuck that extreme left wing anti-Semitic nutcase"

I don' even know who or what you're refering to, but you obviously think it's IK for one generation to pass down to another and hold other 'outsiders' out so your kids kan get a better chance. FUCK YOU! I hope your chidren get brain cancer or turn out child molestors. You are the reason for anti-semitism. Thanks a lot. DIE! (That applies to your family, too.)

he ought to be punched and kicked. i would love to do that.

Jul 11, 2009 at 5:32 PM | Unregistered Commenterthe chicken

Didn't Reade defend us in the Sol Campbell controversy (re: the singing)?

Jul 11, 2009 at 5:57 PM | Unregistered Commenterfilthy

There was a time when the Daily Mirror was a fantastic newspaper wich really captured the mood of the times and had a tradition of excellent investigative journalism. See the war years, the 1960s and into the John PIilger era, then came the Bob [i,ll rob your pension era [ Maxwell and with it the scumsucking toerag journalists[bellends] like Reade. If anyone in the marketing dept at the Mirror are looking for a way to boost circulation, can i suggest setting fire to READE AND THROWING HIM OUT OF WINDOW ON TOP FLOOR OF MIRROR HQ,and doing a full colour souvenir edition special of this event. Then employing a journalist of repute[look in the dictionary if you are not sure] in the meantime i shall continue to use the Daily Mirror for what it is fit for i.e hanging on the hook in our shithouse at work, ready for the lads in morning when they have visited the Star of Bengal the previous evening on a lads night out.Oh how i hope Reade and the newspaper read this ,i want them to really understand the high regard i have for them.

Jul 11, 2009 at 6:33 PM | Unregistered Commentercol

What a wanker that guy Brian Reade is. I have written a complaint to the press complaints commission and if anybody else feels so inclined they can be found here: http://www.pcc.org.uk/complaints/form.html

I cant believe these assholes get away with such verbal vomit. I have stopped buying newspapers cos Im so fed up of the shite that they spout and every paper is as bad as the other.

Now onto the matter in hand....why IS Harry so quiet??? Damn its doing my head in lol

COYS COYS COYS -

Jul 11, 2009 at 6:43 PM | Unregistered CommenterKevin Sullivan

Reade is an excellent writer, although this is very odd. His knowledge of football and his passion for the sport is unrivalled in other journalists, and he did defend Spurs in the Sol Campbell incident.

I think everyone is going a little bit crazy, a bit OTT.

Jul 11, 2009 at 7:46 PM | Unregistered CommenterFlav

He may have made an "honest mistake" true, he may have defended us in the past, however this rubbish he has come up with today is unforgivable. It's insulting, harmful and if I am honest, racist. There is no room in the current day for articles (no matter how small) like this. And to think that an editor thought it ok to publish makes it even worse.

Jul 11, 2009 at 8:00 PM | Unregistered CommenterKentSpur

One of the worst articles that I have come across. It is quite sad to know that some people find humor in such things as well.

I do hope that he is released of his duties there, but that is like hoping we won't sign Downing!

Jul 11, 2009 at 8:26 PM | Unregistered CommenterNandM

He maybe a great writer but just because he has done good in the past doesnt mean he gets free past for something so fucking stupid.

Jul 11, 2009 at 9:00 PM | Unregistered CommenterG-Man

Interesting that some people here regard the defense of racist and homophobic chanting by some misguided Spurs fans as proving that he is a good guy.
It shows exactly the opposite to me and is all of a piece with the crass column under discussion.

Jul 11, 2009 at 9:06 PM | Unregistered CommenterJimmyG2

Why is it interesting, JimmyG2?

I was referring to Reade lambasting Sol Campbell when he made the move.

Jul 11, 2009 at 10:02 PM | Unregistered CommenterFlav

Sorry. I thought you meant that he defended the Spurs fans that chanted. I don't recall the article you refer to as I am not a regular 'Mirror' reader.

Jul 11, 2009 at 10:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterJimmyG2

what a prize tit

definately needs to get his knees done in

Jul 12, 2009 at 1:59 AM | Unregistered CommenterPete Yid

The one question I have is given the years or abject reporting by Journalists. Why should we be surprised?

This is before taking into consideration the likes of Oliver 'I love the goons and hate spurs' Holt and his ilk across many diferent reporting papers, and that by publishing anything about spurs they are tapping into one of the largest domestic fan bases in the politically dominant south east.

The fact is that the media loves to operate on the fringe of legality as it raises the papers profile, sells more and allows them to sell the aforementioned advertising space.

Cynical? me? surely not.....

Jul 13, 2009 at 9:51 AM | Unregistered CommenterTricky

The Daily Mirror have removed all the comments made on their site re: the article.

Yay for freedom of speech!

Jul 13, 2009 at 10:20 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

That's OK, had a few minutes on my hands so sent the FA an e-mail to 'football against racism' department (e-mail ReportDiscrimination@TheFA.com), oh and the press complaints commision.

I'm not naive enough to think it will do any good. But this is not just lazy journalism, this is dumb on a number of levels and I'd rather do something than nothing!

It is this type of article that allows the masses to assume that racist stereotypes are indeed acceptable, regardless of context.

Jul 13, 2009 at 10:33 AM | Unregistered CommenterTricky

Now we're being linked to Partick Viera. I guess if you are Harry Redknapp, leak you are interested in Cambell, let everyone shit themselves, than drop Viera on them and you get the old. "No!! But better him than Judas."

If he comes, forget Rudd if you haven't already.

Jul 14, 2009 at 3:05 AM | Unregistered CommenterTim

Maakun< your comment was vile and disproportionate for any forum. I don't think anon's comment added much value either but wishing brain cancer on children is more than a bit disgusting. Get your rage sorted.
