i-Zoko for sale, battery life good, playback erratic

You've purchased a brand new mp3 player. You had it imported from abroad. Cost you a packet too. But you had no choice having had your previous model nicked. Your new player might not be a known brand over here in the UK but its likely to make a name for its self based on reviews you read.

It's sturdy, no flashy gimmicks and does exactly what it says on the box. Or at least that's what you hoped when you removed all the bubble wrap and packaging. The reality was altogether a little disappointing.

Instructions state that it needs a decent battery charge before inital playback and that the more times it's used the better the quailty gets. And battery life is decent, but the device fails to improve with usage. In fact, it gets worse, none of it aided by the low intelligence of the application.

It has no problem switching on and off, but the shuffle hardly works and most times it takes more than one touch to get anything to work. When selecting fast-forward the player doesn't stop. The search option is non-responsive and when you think you've found one thing you end up with something different. It also struggles with varying formats.

But worst of all the player spends most of the time jumping up and down after prolonged periods of playback.

You find yourself gutted that you've spent £80 on something that isn't up to the job. So your only option is eBay. Except nobody is interested in buying a second-hand player with clumsy playability for the same amount of money you bought it for.

Knock off a few quid.

£40 should get you one or two interested buyers. You might even manage to sell it to someone outside of the UK where they still rate this particular player highly. I hear it's very popular in Spain.

Talking of which, Didier Zokora is looking for clarification on his future with Sevilla sniffing for his signature. Don't think he has a future with us so best we look to off-load him and stick the money in the transfer pot.

No need for eBay. Just accept he isn't worth the transfer fee we originally paid for him and move on.

Out of all the CM's we have at Spurs you have to say that Zokora is the most likely candidate to leave.

His position has been taken by someone who actually contributes to the side and does the job we bought him for. Step forward Wilson Palacios.

I think we should hold out for £6m from Sevilla. In fairness we've had Zokora for around 3 seasons now and he's hardly covered himself in glory. £6M fo him is a fair price.

I think he's more akin to a broken toaster. Sometimes the bread is burnt, often it's undercooked, it has the ability to move the bread sideways a lot and occasionally spin it around. Just when things are going well, you start to get excited and then a huge slice is launched out of the kitchen. Not fit for purpose, not sure about e-bay, think we might have more luck at a car boot sale.

how pointless. you really have nothing better to do, apart from playing with yourself!

Haha, well done again.

p.s. like the new thought of the week

Jun 9, 2009 at 1:12 PM | Unregistered Commentertottihead

Yeah - it's a shame - because Zokora has a lot of heart and I think truly loves the club and the adoration the fans give him..... and sometimes against lesser opposition - he's shone - but only against lesser opposition unfortunately. He gives 100% and happily plays out of position without complaint - it's a shame that he has no footballing brain whatsoever, more just an athlete than anything...

Jun 9, 2009 at 1:14 PM | Unregistered CommenterDBsKnees

I like Didier, he's got character down the spurs and at least he's loyal. I think he does a cracking job at right back when he's put there, a lot better than DMC i'd admit that. Plus I want to see him go mental if he scores his first league goal!

Jun 9, 2009 at 1:14 PM | Unregistered Commenterklinsmann'sbeatle

me thinks(ehrmm)..when we had berb n keane n defoe a couple of seasons ago their goals covered up 4 a lot of deficiencies in our squad...now well we aint scored many goals and its plain to see if we aint gonna score many goals then we need to improve our midfield..i like didier but but but he realy should be a squad player not a regular 1st teamer and that is now whats happening to him under arry 4 or 5 mill for dz is fair enough..like to thank him for his effort and his energy and wish him all the best...

Great post. Makes a change from reading straight-laced rehashes of news we've already read.

Time to let Zoko go. And £8M is taking the piss. £5M tops and reckon Seville will take the bite on that.

"Just accept he isn't worth the transfer fee we originally paid for him and move on."

This is going to be one of this summer's recurring themes.

Jun 9, 2009 at 2:00 PM | Unregistered CommenterBullCity

I agree with Bullcity.

Bent - signed for £16M - sold for.....? £10M at the most, £12M at a push.

Bentley - signed for £16M - sold for....? Same as above. Or part of swap deal.

Pav - signed for £14M - sold for.....? £9M

Love to see our finance report. Reckon we'll be in the red for the first time in yonks.

Zokora hasn't *only* shone against weak opposition, 2 of his best games were Carling Cup finals (though obviously if we hadn't beaten Chelsea with Woodgate's face, we'd have killed Didier for spannering it over an open goal after missing his 1-on-1).
Difficult to see him getting many games so long as Palacios is fit though.
If he left, would that reduce the number of players in our squad who actually have 'a song' to, er, 4?

Dear oh dear, something seems to have taken the gloss off old mattspur. Why do such miserable c*nts need to tell the world about it?. Keep up the good work Spooky, your site is always good for a laugh or insighful comment.

What?!?!? this is the funniest and most entertaining site out there for Spurs supporters, the guys a Legend and makes the run of the mill stories worth reading!! are you a Gooner or just a loner working out which microwave meal for one you'll be eating this evening whist watching Bang Babes and dreaming of actually losing your cherry???

I wish Zok all the luck when he leaves, he is a great athlete and always gives 100%, it's a pity he can't takle, pass or shoot!!! Does anyone think Jamie O'Hara could be the next ''trys hard but's a little shit??'' COYS

Jun 9, 2009 at 2:23 PM | Unregistered Commenterfolkestone Yid

Zoko is very likely but he's the type of player that you love him because of his effort but if he played for someone like West Ham you'd laugh at them for having such a crappy player in their team. Not that he's crap. He's just not the level we need for consistency and structure in center mid.

I will miss his runs from midfield and he was pretty useful at right-back - probably because he has no need to think there.

Jun 9, 2009 at 2:26 PM | Unregistered CommenterShelfside Warrior

Burnout toaster or over-rated mp3 player, I'll still miss those wonderful wonderful jigs.

He's a cult player. You love him but for the wrong type of reasons. Not because he bosses the midfield or scores 20 a season but because he runs really fast and can't slow down and never gets anywhere near the goal when shooting.

£8M for a laugh is one expensive joke on us.

Mattspur. What message board are you from?

Never understand people who feel the need to be critical of something they don't like. You do know you can browse away and use other blogs or news feeds for your Spurs related news?

I don't like soap operas but you don't see me posting in forums relating to soaps stating my disapproval of these waste of space tv shows.

Just do one you troll.

Jun 9, 2009 at 2:30 PM | Unregistered Commentergavin

no folkstone, i am neither a g**ner or a loner or dreaming of losing my cherry, although bang babes does sound quite good.

as for silver-spurfer, being a spurs fan all these years has probably made me the miserable c*nt that I am. just don't find this bloke remotely funny.

as for Zokora can only agree that he is poo although wish him well. Palacios is the man, just hope he comes back with his head sorted.

Jun 9, 2009 at 2:34 PM | Unregistered Commentermattspur

I doubt Spooky even thinks he's that funny. Have you ever posted when he posts serious posts? Just that old chestnut about only ever hearing feedback from people who complain rings a little true about people like you. You don't like the bloke yet you hang around in the comments section of one of his blog posts?

Jun 9, 2009 at 2:41 PM | Unregistered Commentergavin

Why does Zokora require clarity on his future? Did he not have these talks already? Theres no way he can play every week. I guess the talks will be him begging Levy to let him go for half the asking price we have him up for sale for.

All the best Zoko.

gavin, made first comment & left it on computer by mistake. only stayed on longer when I saw some of the idiots like you reacting which made me laugh (more than the article did anyway). find it very amusing that knobs like you get so upset about it....I thought i was supposed to be the miserable c*nt. anyway i'll happy oblige and move onto bang babes on folkstone yids recommendation. bye twat!

Let's not get too side-tracked here. I don't expect everyone to read this blog and enjoy it, because not everyone likes to read something which is leftfield to the normal straight forward in your face obvious articles you find elsewhere. Which are the type you come across on the Beeb or Sky or the broadsheets. Nothing wrong with those types of articles. But this is a blog which means its not tied down to conformity and rules. Which is why my articles tend to cover various styles depending on mood and content.

I write for myself. So dry 'em if you don't like 'em. Thankfully theres a fair few people that do, so I'm happy not to be sat alone in this dark corner over here.

Fact is, this blog is not everyones cup of tea and I'm not fussed if someone browses and browses away unimpressed.

Interestingly, if you look at the other major Spurs blogs out there, they all have their own style. All Action No Plot is my personal fav and is wondefully insightful. Yet even the author of that blog is abused when a fellow Spurs fan doesn't quite agree with his comments.

Seems in the world of the internet it's far easier to call your brother a c*nt when you don't like what he's said rather than look for some type of respectful banter.

Ho hum. We need a John Lennon song right about now.

Oh, and Mattspur is friendly compared to most. Some have attempted to find out where I live to do me over. This is other Spurs fans by the way.

What a world, I say, what a world we live in.....

£5M for Zoko is good business. He'll probably do fine out in Spain. Just wasn't anywhere near the complete player we needed when Carrick left. Palacios might not be complete but he is a thousand times better than Didier.

I like zok and wish him all the best, he was always determined and gave it his best. in fact I think he will really shine in sevilla - type of game down there might suit him much better than the full-speed-game in the premiership.

I am Andrei, I like being paid for playing football but I never get paid enough. See Queen of England she take half of Andrei's money and Andrei not like it. Agent is very angry like rabid chernobyl dog as his wages go down when Andrei earn less. Solution - Arsenal increase Andrei wage, this make Andrei happy like little schoolgirl with new doll. Simples.

Jun 9, 2009 at 4:00 PM | Unregistered CommenterJamiespurs

Won't miss Zok too much, his best game for me was vs Manure when he played RB and didn't give Ronaldo a kick.
Jaimiespurs - quotes like that give me hope that he might cause loads of dressing room unrest down in Woolwich (fingers crossed!!)

Alright mate, hope you're well. I think it highlights the problems with signing players like Arshavin. His agent, much like Berbatov's are only out for themselves and I for one am glad that we didn't sign the little shitbag. Wenger's proven over the years that he struggles to keep miserable players under control and as such I hope Andrei causes some trouble for old sour face.

Let's face it the only reason he signed Arshavin is because he looks like a little boy and his name is SMOOTHBUM.

Can't we let Zoko fill Stefan Freund's empty boots and become the new 'football genius' down the lane? At least we'd have a new song to sing!

mexico first team player!!

dont think harry is right on this one!!

Jun 9, 2009 at 11:36 PM | Unregistered Commenterbilliospur

Christ, Levy loves to haggle, eh? The longer we hold onto Zok the further his value will drop through lack of games so we may as well get what we can for him now and put it towards developing the team for next season. Even just getting him off the wage bill will help. So what if it's for less than we (over)paid for him back in the day, see it as extra funds for players that we really need now. Surely it's better to accept and rectify a mistake than to dig your heels in and potentially make it worse (cue Ramos flashback). Same goes for Bent. And Bentley. And KPB... Ghaly, has he gone yet?

Jun 10, 2009 at 1:00 AM | Unregistered CommenterNext Season

Zokora was a terrible player who at best had limited footballing ability.
Comments like "I like him, he gave 100%" are meaningless. He is a professional footballer being made sums more than the likes of us.

I would give 100% if I ever had the chance to play for Spurs but would soonbe found out !

Pity it's taken this long for the majority of the supporters to realise this.

Excellent post BTW

Jun 10, 2009 at 1:08 PM | Unregistered Commenterrandom

Yo_daniel - obviously I was generalising - but picking out 2 games in Zokora's career is hardly the basis for your argument of my point - which I stand by - he has *only* shone against lesser opposition. I didn't think he had that good a game agianst Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final - either...

Jun 10, 2009 at 3:24 PM | Unregistered CommenterDBsKnees

Also Spooky - I'm not surprised by being threatened by other Spurs fans. I've been there myself for standing up for Ghaly (I was offered outside - at the Lane). I'm sorry - I'm not talking about online peeps or the away support - but the majority of Spurs fans that sit round me (East Stand Lower - Block 29) - are neanderthal, ignorant c*nts....

Jun 10, 2009 at 3:29 PM | Unregistered CommenterDBsKnees

Keep it up Spooks. The Conundrum series was fantastic. And so are the letters. Both examples of how diverse a writer you are, which is probably why you are not everyone cup of tea.
