Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 4:06PM In an interview over at West Ham Till I Die, Scott Duxbury has once more reiterated that they will not sell any of their players to us. Their fans do not want to see their best players sign for their most bitter local rivals. Nothing more sickening apparently.
What a melter.
The day a player of the ilk of Palacios or Modric turns us down and signs for them instead is the day that the word 'rival' can be used with much deserved acclaim in response to what we think of them. That and if Chelsea and Arsenal suddenly cease to exist.
I know what you're going to say, the very fact that I'm mentioning this is giving credence to the fact that I must care enough to mention it in the first place. I guess I'm only doing it to once more remind the people who do care (guess who) that they are the ones who perpetuate this demented obsession.
We're a bigger club than West Ham much like we are bigger than Fulham or Pompey. It's not arrogance, it's fact based on about a hundred different things (talk amongst yourselves). Much like Manchester United and (unfortunately) Arsenal are bigger than us. That's life as it currently stands. I'd say it to any Fulham fan too. Not with abuse or disrespect. But with a factual nod and hug.
I guess I'm now perpetuating the stereotype that the 'ammers see as our demented obsession.
I guess by virtue of this type of banter, we are rivals of sorts. Like the neighbour a few doors down with the smaller garden claiming that his is better than ours because he has more garden gnomes than we do...with us shouting back that we never said we've got a better garden but now you mention it...
If that's the case, I'm getting my suit measured for the Cup final.

I never get this West Ham thing. I remember urging on West Ham in the 1980 cup final, it was against the arse, and they have produced some decent players. But they have had no real success other than the cup final win, in recent history and have spent time in the second division in that period. While Spurs in comparison have been very successful, not sucessful enough for our fans, and are one of only 7 clubs, I think, to have been in the premier league every season. I think you will also find that Spurs are one of only 2 clubs to have won a major trophy in each of the last 6 decades.
I have respect for West Ham as a club as they have a good ethic, however I find alot of their supporters to be a strange lot. They seem to have some complex about Spurs, be it envy, I don't know. But they should get this straight, Arsenal are our rivals, always have been, always will be, regardless of stature. I might add that between 1950 until 1989, Tottenham had won more trophies than arsenal, and that included all but the european cup. Now it is Arsenal but who knows it may all turn around again in the next ten years.
West Ham will never be on the same level of intensity, they do not have the history as the 2 north london clubs. So yes we want to beat them and they want to beat us, but to me beating Arsenal in any form is so more important.

I spent my whole adult life supporting Spurs in South Africa where I was born. Now I live in New Zealand. I have belonged to several Spurs Supporters Clubs and one Pub where we gathered to watch Spurs live on TV. I have also watched Spurs play live 5 times. My sons play soccer and my youngster has been approached by a scout from North Hampton Town(where the fffk is that?) to have a trial...except he said Spurs or nothing and walked off...what am I going on about, I'll tell you.
In all my adult years I have met 1000's of Spurs fans, fans of Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arse, even Blackburn when they were winning but I have only met 2 WHU fans in SA, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Australia.

One of my first football memories was running out in the garden and replicating Brookings goal against Arsenal. I can't really hate a club that prides itself on playing entertaining football. But I do dislike several West Ham fans because of their pathological hatred for us (I've seen several instances of this played out in front of me which stagger belief).
Anyways, from looking at some of the comments, I'm afraid its the 'ammers who are disillusioned. Finishing above us 2 seasons ago and finishing below us on goal difference doesn't suddenly make you on our level or a club that we need to worry about.
If you think we are deluded because we aim higher than you lot, then you're simply misguided. We want to fucking achieve something. Yes, we manage to fuck it up often. We know that. All Spurs fans know that. It's why we have a sense of humour. And yes, sure we wear our hearts on our sleeves which means we put ourselves out there more even if it means we are more susceptible and at at risk if things don't go well.
But if you think we look towards you as we attempt to progress, you have to be fucking joking. Sorry lads. But being better than Villa and Everton is far more important to us. Chelsea fans probably hate us as much as they hate anyone. I guess in some ways, they are the West Ham of the Fulham area. They are detestable cunts of the highest order. Both clubs have a respectable tradition for fine football. Tottenham have historically had more success, and have a larger global fanbase in the modern era. We have both suffered in the Premier era, having to surrender our best players to bigger clubs for want of money/CL football. You can pump it up with whatever emotional bs you want, but cold facts are cold facts.
But TBH - this Duxbury guy is just stating a policy that is intended to reflect the fans feelings, and please them. Is it stupid? Only if it harms the club overall. West Ham are rivals - thats a fact. We are usually more worried about them finishing above us than Arsenal and Chelsea thats for sure. We are nowhere nears those 2 teams, but West Ham will always be close to us in the league. As for signing players like Modric and Palacios - they managed to get Tevez, Mascharano and Scott Parker. Anywhere its nice to have a rival that doesnt always dick us in the league!

How about you tell me how you define a rival? Technically, geographically, you can argue we are. We are both London clubs. But Spurs have never looked across to you lot and wondered, 'we need to keep ahead of them'. You find us saying 'well never sell you any of our players', mainly because we use you as a dumping ground for crocks.
And as for Chelsea and Arsenal - they maybe Champions League, but I suggest you sneak your way into one of the games against them lot, and you'll see for yourself the difference in 'rivalry'.

West Ham are rivals geographically in that there is banter (some of it aggressive) between the two sets of fans. But how can anyone claim that WH are a bigger club than us is beyond me. Fan base, money, stature etc way way ahead of the Hammers. Nothing more to say.
