A Spurs shirt to be proud of...

I promise not to be grumpy this week. Well, not much. And I know what some of you are thinking. Here he goes again, complaining about the home shirt with the yellow streaks. Well you'd be right. I found this piece of blurb on the official website under the New Kit 09/10 section, accompanying the new home shirts:
This is the new Spurs Home Shirt for the season 2009/2010. This shirt merges traditional Spurs colours with a very modern and striking design. The white has been the main colour of Spurs kits since 1898, while yellow was worn by a multitude of Spurs hero's over the last 4 decades of the 20th century. This shirt is a true merger of the wonderful heritage of the club with a modern twist.
Merger? Modern twist? Please, do me a favour. Ok, let's translate:
This is the new Spurs Home Shirt for the season 2009/2010. Rather than keep with tradition and history we've decided to add a colour that has no place on the home shirt to create a lemon mousse tinge leaving us looking a like Leeds United. The white has been the main colour of Spurs kits since 1898, while yellow was worn by a multitude of Spurs players over the last 4 decades of the 20th century, on the away shirt because traditionally that’s the colour we wear away from home, thus making it the away shirt. We couldn't come up with anything creative so we thought we'd re-write the past.
But let's not fret.
I think it's been discussed enough now, and we all agree - the people who like it will buy it, the rest will prefer to look elsewhere (both away shirts are superior IMO).
But there's another choice.
Spurs have redeemed themselves with a sublime training top, which is far far superior to the home shirt design and would have made a perfect fit for it too. It's even got a little yellow on it, in far more inoffensive areas of the design. Would be even better without the yellow bits, but it's a training top, so it’s understandable why they've been included. Ironic that a training top actually has less yellow on it and in less prominent places than the home shirt does (damn that modern twist. I need to get me a flux capacitor and back out of the past).

Smart. Simplistic. Slick. Stylish. Spurs.
I'd actually consider buying this. Yes, you heard me right. It's a classy design with no need for dramatic unnecessary streaks or flashes. It's minimalistic. But it's definitively Tottenham.
And for a bit of pro-Spurs commentry here (to knock you off your seat), most of the 2009/10 training/tracksuit range are better than great. Well done to the club and Puma for that.
And that's that for now. Hopefully today and the rest of the week does not turn out to be another slow news day. Not long before the transfer window opens now...

Your up awful early spooky. Were you awaken from your sleep by a nightmare of our New Piss stained home kit? Prompted by terror you became hell bent on finding some piece of spurs gear to console you and this is what you came up with?
On a more serious note this is an absolutely fantastic blog and I am a huge fan reading from over here in the States. I welcome this blog as a real, genuine outlook on all things related to our beloved Tottenham. Keep up the good work.
just wear last years top they dont deserve to be paid for this cock up and ifyou want to put money in the club coffers in support there are a number of retro tops which could be bought.
My argument and what I'd like to do is promote the purchase and wearing of Retro tops this season.

to be fair the design on the shirt isnt bad at all, all they have to do is change the yellow piss stain colour to blue and then its a shirt everyone will buy IMO

this cock up is probably due to the top chaps at spurs and puma not researching the fans trends and opinions.....

is it rocket science or plain common sense to get right........so the fans feel good factor is kept at a high with the merchandise or trying to squeeze the pockets of supporters and ending up with egg on the clubs face............

I do like the training shirt, as an added bonus to the lack of yellow it also incorparates a huge lack of red!
I wish everyone would just forget about the bloody kit. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Personally I think its nice. It's not the best but it's better than last years in my opinion.
Anyway its not like we'll have to put up with it for long is it? Because we now bring out kits every year they have to make them different. Why can't we keep a home shirt for more than 1 year?!
In response to above: No, Paul Barber will not change te shirt - in fact it is suggested that the shirt for 2010/2011 is already decided too. He WILL NOT consult that fans due to a whole load of BS regarding contracts etc.
I know this because I asked the Trust what was going on!
Im thinking of wearing the 78 or 84 shirt this season
to answer to bored........whats more important is the team performance of course
but there is a lot of loyal supporters ,and dads etc who feel let down by this design who part with hard earned cash
and are probably now looking at alternatives ........it says a lot that the training top here is winning
if it doesnt matter then wear the the new design..!!.................see you on britains got new talent!
Hey Frazzle, that's a big shame. Probably means that the 2011 shirt will have blue added to the yellow strips.
I like the look of the training top too - and only 25bar to boot. But is it made out of that horrible clingy shiny wet-look material that makes you look like you're in an early Take That video? Ew.
I agree with you, the home shirt's a LEMON, but this story is boring now and all you guys whining about it are in danger of becoming LEMONS too. Yawn, move on please.

"Hero's" is the possesive - the word they should use in this context is the plural, "Heroes"
I suggested the same thing last week, all three training tops are what the kit should have been, no sponsor, no red, subtle colouring and a sensible price.
Does the home klit looks include a cape hanging from the shoulders? That's the impression I get from the yellow bits.

Personally, the home kit is growing on me and it is the other two that I have begun to dislike. The blue stripes on the 3rd kit, for example, ruin it for me.
I'll probably buy the Home kit but have also invested in a Spain shirt and last year's Porto away shirt for actually playing in.
Why are they changing the kit every year anyway? They never used to.
With a 14-year-old son it costs me a fortune to keep him in the latest kits.

Get a grip fella. It's just a bunch of opinions. Bit like someone claiming Zokora is a decent midfield player and someone else stating the opposite. You can slag off the club if you want, it doesn't make you any less of a fan.

if the trust had a say, we could all breate a little easier. they dont have a vote, although there is a team who sits around deciding the designs. they could reasonably sit on that team and veto piss streaks. at the moment, the trust had seen the kit months ago and said nothing... nice one Trust. thanks for my reply which never happened too.

This shirt business is distracting us from more important issues. Namely, the lack of transfer activity/rumours. Every 5 minutes on Newsnow and nothing. Pre-season's not that far away now. I'm dying on the inside here!
