Blackwood signs from Arsenal, but is he worth 50 cents?

Ricketts.
O'Hara.
Bentley via Blackburn.
And now Blackwood. Anton Blackwood.

The 17 year old defender has signed a one year deal from them lot from Woolwich. He travelled with the academy team to Switzerland and played in the final of the Tournoi International trophy against Hajduk split (3-0), even managing to get himself onto the score sheet. The only thing I know about the lad is that he can run 100m in around 11.1 seconds (at least he did so at the age of 14).

Other than that, he joined Arsenal from Northampton but has had injury issues in the past two 'seasons'. He wasn't offered a new contract due to his poor performances.

SPURS TO THE RESCUE! It's a one year contract and apparently its incentive based. We'll see how this one pans out. You have to be a little concerned with us picking up another Arsenal youth reject. But in the grand scheme of things, its a non-story. Although it would be nice if he turned out to be a gem. For larfs.

I guess covering this story was just an excuse to post these pictures of 50 cent in a Toronto shirt with the name Ricketts on the back. Yes, Ricketts. Rohan Ricketts. Remember Rohan? I'm sure you do.

He's apparently a bit of a super-star in the MLS. Which should more or less tells you everything you need to know about the game over the pond.

Football. Funny. Old. Game.

Toronto FC season ticket holder here, just informing you that rohan isnt a superstar in MLS however he is one of the more skillful players. I think he's started one game this season if any (out of 10)

I didn't think that Ricketts was that bad when we had him... sure, he wasn't a world beater, but a player who gave 110% every time he put on the shirt. I'm glad he is doing well over there. Even if he hasn't played. :-|

On Anton Blackwood, he is apparently a defender in the mould of Rio Ferdinand, in that he is a composed, ball-playing centre half. Should be good to see how he develops.

he has no.10 as well to boot. Glen, unless the game over there is very physical and too much for Ricketts, why would he start just one game when he is one of the most skilful in the league.
He was a good player at Spurs, but one that was found wanting on a big stage, though he gave his all. I think he went to Wolves, but didn't really set the place alight.
I see 50 is still with his bodyguard, Llyod Banks.

He's not a superstar? I'm actually disappointed to hear that.

big fan of the blog & felt it was my duty to get involved seeing as i'm now an expat living in Toronto ... been to about 15 MLS games here in last 2 seasons - its hard to watch sometimes but beggars can't be choosers and to be fair to the Toronto fans they are easily the most passionate & loyal in the MLS ... 20,000 sold out every home game, 10,000 waiting list & a good time had despite the standard of play

Anyway back to Ricketts - he does my head in , every time I see him play (rarely these days)not only I am shocked that he ever played for spurs but he is so average he should be rightly embarrased ever telling anyone he once played in the premiership ... H.O.W ??????

and did I mention his blogs - " Rollin' with Ricketts " ......................god help us

p.s. great Spurs supporters club in Toronto at Scallywags bar that show EVERY game if anyone is ever stuck on their travels

Theotheyid, I think the MLS is more physical than he was expecting but i think hes done alright. he scored two of the best goals i've seen in person last season and hes the only winger on the team so he really should be playing but the last two managers havent given him much playing time. (he came on as a sub today btw about 2 hours ago in a 2-0 loss and he was pretty much crap but no worse than the rest of the team)

Glen,

can we safely say he has found a place where his talents can be put to good use?
