Quote of the Day

"I've been telling JJ recently to surge forward with the ball," Sherwood says. "He can run. He's a threat. If he stands there and just passes the ball I could still play against him now, so I got out the DVD and showed him what happens when he bursts forward.

"Tom is another one. Pre-season was a real eye-opener because we saw that he can actually move, that he's fit and he can get about the pitch. People say he can't play in a 4-4-2 but he can. In fact, he's perfect for that because he gets more room to show his range of passing."

From Tim Sherwood, via this Telegraph article.

Give him a shirt number and stick him in the team.

If anyone has evidence regarding Tim's second quote about Huddlestone moving, please e-mail me the details. Ta. And I'm not talking about Hudd moving through the driveway at McDonalds. Got those pics already.

Is Tom Huddlestone crap then?

I would rather have some one that can run fast but has no technical ability. Like that Zokora fella of Sevilla.

If it wasnt for playing Tom Slow and crap Huddlestone we would be leading the prem.

Drop Lennon and Defoe too, They arent tall.

So you want someone who can run but can't kick a ball. Great. And in the last game Crouch (tall) 1 goal, Defoe (short) 5 goals, Lennon(short) 1 goal and 3? assists. Lets drop the short guys. Though for the record I don't think crouch should be dropped either. Why aren't you in management jiaaahaahahaha. Or are you struggling to manage a pulse?

I'm gonna go out on the limb here and say that iaaaahaaha was being sarcastic... perhaps he was making the OH SO SUBTLE point that not every player can do everything and that you need players who can run, players who can pass but you may not necessarily get the player who can do everything perfectly? Learn to read between the lines, reno.

wow, sarcasm really doesn't filter well through the intertubes eh? :)

Love how JJ got pwned lol :) I don't think he's done badly this season, though he could still improve.

I'm quite happy with rotating Hudd and Jenas this season depending on the game, they are not complete midfielders or perfect partners for Palacios (except in the easy games, where Hudd shines next to him) but have their own strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully the WC really encourages them, I think Capello kind of likes Hudd and maybe a really good season will see him off to SA. COYS!!

"If he stands there and just passes the ball I could still play against him now"

I love that bit - Shame Tim didn't say that to him before the England v Brazil game! For a minute I thought he'd taken on Ray 'The Crab' Wilkins as his mentor.

I thought that was a pretty positive article from fleet street (are they still all based there?) for a change. Indicates that Arry is confident with what he's doing and in the loyalty and honesty he's going to get from his coaching team. It's great to clarify what everyone is doing - one of the charges brought against Arry's regime was that he was just getting jobs for his mates at the expense of the club. It's great to hear that they've got their specialist subjects. One of the things that Defoe said last week stuck out - something about having watched loads of Clive Allen's goals on youtube. Whether he wanted evidence that Clive actually is qualified to train him as a striker, or whether he truly wanted to learn how to develop his game, the fact that he highlighted this speaks volumes about the amount of respect there is now between players and coaches. Whatever we as fans personally think about the coaches/players, none of us with clarity can dispel the facts that things have gotten an awful lot better since Arry joined and arguably measurably better than even the Jol era.

Who's this Sherwood bloke then? He obviously not the w****er that played for us back in the day. This Sherwood must have been some player to be able to give advice to Thud and JJ!!

Nov 28, 2009 at 2:15 PM | Unregistered Commentersinger

Singer. That'll be the same w****r that won the premiership with Blackburn Rovers!

Nov 28, 2009 at 3:46 PM | Unregistered CommenterHarryid

Now we can only hope Sherwood can suggest something for JJ to do with the ball once he's 'surged forward', as turning 180 degrees and playing the all straight back to the defence is a bit counter-productive....maybe JJ could learn how to shoot or beat a man?

I know that you are only responding to the article but I find it astonishing that sitting 4th in the prem, coming off a 9-1 victory, one of the highest goals for collumns and key players returning to form, some of you manage to still sound so bloody pessimistic and continue to bash our players. Here's an idea, discuss club issues in a positive manner, praise as well as slate and try to be fair. Perhaps if we actually develop a positive attitude this would rub off onto the players and affect our performances........you know, just a thought
;-)

It was a good article. For once.

So Tom doesn't do enough aimless running around. Never mind the ability to unlock a defence with a pass from either foot or the hammer-like shots from outside the box, what we want is a team of Dirk Kuyts. Tom's played every game this season and we're third. Spot a pattern emerging anyone?
However... once Modric is back I'd be very interested to see what Kranky can do in the middle alongside Wilson. He appears to have the creativity of Hudd with the box-to-box-ability of JJ.

Spooky loves Huddlestone. I know this for a fact.

As for JJ....

Nov 28, 2009 at 10:04 PM | Unregistered CommenterOracle

IDK why everyone thinks Palacios is so great. He was terrible on the ball today and there is a reason that he was subbed off for Jenas. Our play improved significantly when Jenas came on. Villa never were going to beat us in central midfield, they were going to play on the counter all day long and try to nick us in set pieces. Palacios will have a tough time finding a game for himself in these conditions unless he can help us keep possession.

Kevin.

No offence, but that's a ridiculous comment. Anyone with the slightest murmur of grey matter would recognise that Wilson is the best central midfielders we've had in years. If you go through every game this season pining for him to be replaced by Jermain Jenas, then I've got to say you're in for a huge disapointment.

Jenas is soooooo 2005.

Palacios has not been in the form he was last season. Part of this is probably due to mental fatigue (he's said that he thought about quitting for a while after his brother's death), but I suspect another issue is having to make up for Hudd next to him. Jenas and Palacios were a pretty good pairing last season, not really creative but provided plenty of steel in our 4-4-2. I am not a big Jenas fan, but he was better than Hudd today when he came on, and he's been decent this season. I'd say JJ/Pal should be our CM against the top 8, Hudd is perfect against poor teams but ineffective against the better sides.

Even without our two best defenders and Modric for the majority of the season, and the likes of Defoe and Lennon shifting in and out of the team, and picking up fewer points than last season at some places (Villa away, the top 3, Stoke at home) somehow we're still sitting in 3rd/4th place atm! That said, we've benefited from even worse injury crises at the likes of Pool and Everton and the Arse, and I can't see us going on a long run of wins like Pool can, so we've got a real fight on our hands for the rest of the season. RIght now there are only a few points separating the top 8, if Pool win tomorrow they'll be breathing down our necks even with their dire form so far. I think we've also shown more spirit this season than before though, so we have to believe :) COYS!!

guys must confess only saw highlights of the game but am loving what i see of the team at the moment...they are starting to believe, harry's message is finally getting thru..these players would not accept defeat. dont be surprised if we go unbeaten in all comps for a while. watching united against pompey they had no creativity, arsenal no heart, city arent yet team but spurs have all the makings creativity, talent, heart and if you watch the goal celebrations we are a TEAM!!! forget 4th place we might even qualify for champions league proper. keep the faith. COYS

Spooky,

Not being dim (perhaps I am - damn)but what's with the "We apologise for any inconvenience' header? I know it's a bit tedious explaining a joke, but go on then ....take me apart!!!!

Nov 29, 2009 at 10:52 AM | Unregistered CommenterSCALYTOMATO

I'll hazard a guess and say it's taking the piss out of the fact that Spurs always...always put us through the mire.

Nov 29, 2009 at 11:42 AM | Unregistered CommenterThe Machine

If Palacios was outplaying Huddlestone so badly, why was he subbed for Jenas?

Nov 30, 2009 at 3:53 AM | Unregistered CommenterKevin
