The story of Darren Bent and a balloon
Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 4:11PM
More off-topic madness.
Well done that balloon. Rumours are, Levy is set to bid £15M for it because it floats around the box better than Robbie Keane. If the above youtube is removed due to copyright, laugh at Phil Thompson here.
I thank you.
I'm here all day.

We may need a lucky balloon too. KPB scores, Defoe walks.
(If only that was Robert Keane walking for a three match ban.....giving us a chance to see Pavlyuchenko and/or Dos Santos!-just a thought) But,....
Its going to shit at Fratton Park! Gomes has made some cracking saves. Defoe 3 match ban is going to hurt even if we get through this one ok.
Bent is on fire and is proving that Spurs were to quick to get rid of him. 8 goals this season so far. Can't believe Defoe today! Silly boy. He supports Arsenal, maybe he didn't fancy playing against them.! 3 game ban! We did well to get the points today, it was always going to be a close game.
Puts him out against the scum yes? Luka's back soon though!
LOL the baloons. Studs up is gonna be funny on Monday...
I would think it'll be great to start Pav & Robbie together, leaving Crouch to be plan B. Starting Crouch gives opponent a clear strategy which is to mark him out. A pity Defoe will get a 3 match ban, just when things are looking good. Still, let's celebrate a win! We're still 3rd!
I not sure Defoe meant it, he wasn't looking down at his leg and seemed to pull up as soon as he felt it, I think we may be able to win the appeal, lets hope so or yes it is a big loss, though maybe a good oportinity to see Pav get a look in as I still think he can do a half decent job. Stoke, Everton & ARSE if he is out for 3 though damn it!
Rick, if Defoe did support Arsenal I doubt he still does, the respect he showed us by not scoring against us, a fan favirote, sure he must be Yid right through now!
...I think it should be less than a three game ban. Its really great that Harry has us picking up points when we are expected to coz everyone knows that previously, Spurs would always conspire to lose against the bottom team.
I really really wish that were Robbie Keane going off for a three-six match rest. Not because I dislike him or something, but I honestly believe that would be the only way that Pavlyuchenko and Santos would get a chance to shine for us...Plus it would set us up better for a win against the goons - which we all want, right?
Why should Pav and Dos Santos to be given a chance when the current first eleven are doing just fine (third last time I checked)? Is Pav better than Keane or Crouch? No. Does Gio offer anything other than unrealized 'potential' without the same Prem experience as Kranjcar? Nope. Wildcard at best.
We've benefited from consistent team selection this season, as opposed to the pre-Redknapp Ramos era, so why balls it up by experimenting? I truly do not understand the obsession with certain players who have done very little for the club and are clearly not considered good enough by the management team.
Anyway, rant over... nothing personal.
Good job Comolli isn't presiding over transfers anymore or we'd surely be offering £15m for that frickin' balloon...
Defoe can support whatever team he wishes. He is scoring and that is what matters. He has let himself and the team down today though. Pompey dominated really and we were lucky to win. It's great that we are third, nobody expected us to be in this postion after 9 games. However if we are to get anything at Arsenal we are going to have to play a near perfect match and get some fortune given the form they are in at the Emirates. It will be extremely difficult to get a result. COYS.
Hoe, I don't think the club will even attempt to appeal the red (see Harry's post match comment). It was a blatant, if perhaps not very heavy, stamp. The intent was there.
Have to admit that Defoe has always gotten up my nose, even more so since his return. His "I don't need to pass to no stinking team mates" style really grated, what with the memories of the sublime Keane Berbatov partnership still fresh in the mind. Yeah, yeah, all strikers are selfish, but there are degrees of selfishness and I think Defoe takes it to a counterproductive extreme. On field persona-wise, he seems like he'd be far more at home with the chavs of chelsea.
Given that we did win the match, despite the red, I'm not exactly crying that we'll finally get to see Keane/Pav/Crouch combination for a run of games.
I think we are lucky to have picked 3 points from our match against Pompey. We have Gomes to thank as he was outstanding in the goal. He has certainly proved that he is our no. 1 goalkeeper.
What Defoe has done was stupid and unnecessary. As an experienced professional footballer, he should have known better. He is only punishing his team as he has great scoring ability and we shall be without him for the next three big games.
Can't believe some are actially moaning and aaying we were lucky. Blimey what more do we want eh. I will take lucky all day long. I hope we continue to be lucky till the end of May. We are third (thats thrid top!!) for heaven's sake. Lets not say he shoudl play or he shouldn't play as who ever is playing, it seems to be working. Why play Pav when Crouch is playing well. Why bring Dos Santos in (isn't he injured tho hmmm) when the balance is good. It ain't broke so lets not fix it........COYS
The balloon was better than darren bent, 8 goals he may well have, but to be frank, he's still not better than what we have, and simply suited a long ball game with jones holding it up. It turns out that we've started to 'play football' in a sort of 'passing way'. but don't tell anyone, it's a secret. Just like us being 3rd currently Shhhhhhhhh..........
