Payment plan for Palacios?

According to Wigan boss Steve Bruce, the size of the fee has been agreed between Spurs and the Latics for holding midfielder Wilson Palacios. But as far as the payment is concerned, Bruce has stated that our dear esteemed chairman wants to pay if over something like 55 years.

Obviously a slight exaggeration. It's probably more like 48 years.

Honestly Daniel. Look for those extra pennies behind the sofa and if need be, smash that piggy bank you've got in your office and try and be a little more reasonable with the offer. Or maybe sell the Opus for a discounted price of £3,500 (bargin!).

Have we run out of those £15M reserve transfer buckets?

Still on the Palacios story, loving the piece in the Daily Mail about how Wilson will reject Spurs and stay at Wigan till the end of the season. That's not the bit I smiled at. The part that says Wigan are reluctant to do business with Spurs - much like Sunderland, West Ham, Pompey and Boro having been 'aggrieved' at the way we have gone about our business.

So let's take a look at how we've gone about it.

Who revealed to the media that a bid had been made for Palacios? Wigan.
Who revealed to the media that bids had been made for Bellamy? West Ham.
Who revealed to the media that a bid had been made for Jones? Sunderland.

As for Downing. All Redknapp did (I'm not too critical of him in this case) was answer a direct question from a journalist. Not exactly with the style of a Rafa or Sir Alex either. After that point, it's Boro who did all the 'talking' via the media.

In fact, I see no 'scatter gun' approach in the way we have gone about our (lack of) business this Jan window. We made enquiries, made bids and that is it. If clubs then want to make comments after the fact, that's their prerogative.

For now, all we can do is sit back and wait for an official word from the clubs in question. Then let the media tell everyone like they knew all along.

I would get your facts straight before u make a complete cunt of your self any more. The deal offered and publishised was over 4years. What Bruce was doing was sarcasm.

Stop slagging off everything spurs does and try putting some money forward for a transfer, or r u really just a fucking pikey using free wifi on the street corner.

Not sure what the highest amount Wigan got before, but I am sure that paying 14 million over 4 years is probably the standard thing. We probably have Man Utd and Liverpool paying for Berbatov and Keane during that period and we reuse that money. I do think that many clubs are just jumping on the bandwagon. As the article states many clubs announced that Spurs made the offer.

You really are a prat arn't you?

If Levy does something stupid then fine have a go but all he is trying to do is get the best deal for the club. Most transfer fees are paid ove a number of years Bruce and Whelan are just trying to put a bit of pressure on Tottenham and hoping that City will come in with a straight cash deal.

As for your comment "An accountant shouldn't be running a football club" who should be? Perhaps if an accountant had been running Leeds then they wouldn't be in the old third division.

Christ, are the first two posters West Stand season ticket holders by chance? Calm down you absolute melters.

What, Bruce is ok to do sarcasm, but I'm not? You need to take a step back and get with it. Not everything you read is black and white and written for people who frequent the library for Thomas the Tank engine books.

This is what happens when people read your articles without prior knowledge to your style and 'joke'.

Sad to admit, I am an accountant, but I have to disagree with the previous comments.
Levy is getting an unwelcome reputation as a "chiseller" and it is obviously alienating a lot of clubs.
It has already fucked us up once in the Berba saga - get a few million more at 11.58 but then not get a replacement in (great business, Dan!) - so why are we going down the same road?
Assuming we have the cash (we ought to given we were net neutral on summer deals), are we really going to jeopardise the Palaciod deal, and potentially our Prem survival, for the funding cost on improved payment terms??
With interest rates at their lowest point in years, please see the big picture, Mr Levy, and just get in the players we need to avoid us going through the trapdoor.
Thank you, now I'll go back to counting my beans!

14:18 - Some sense.

Oracle. I think there is a whole heap of distorted facts around Levy and the way he conducts himself. Yes - he is a business man and yes (even Spooky would admit) that he has done great for this club with regards to the PLC and money made. We have millions to spend season in and season out. So he can;t be that bad.

But sadly he lacks savvy in other areas. Made evident in his trust in Comolli - although to be fair he though he was appointing someone with savvy at the time.

What a bunch of total wankers! You have to be a bunch of Obama supporters. If we had won 4 of our first 7 games instead of playing ned beattie in the shower, we wouldn't even be having this pissing contest. Levy is a pratt yes but he knows how the transfer market works. He isn't perfect and he made one stinking pile of shite out of the Berba thing but he and Harry hoodwink know what we need better than you cheesers. Give the dick some time to f up again and then stomp him. Just because you don't agree with the transfer aproach doesn't mean it is entirely wrong. Go find a job and stop bleeding the country dry you twats!

Jan 19, 2009 at 2:33 PM | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Well, Levy wants the best for spurs, and thats
1. Spurs keep more of their current transferbudget, and can continue shopping...
2. The other clubs get minimal funds to buy a replacement...

Conclusion. Levy is a smart ass, and the other clubs wont have it any more...

I cant wait for the next 'Dear Mr Levy' letter.

I'm also an accountant and think that Mr Levy is a smart cookie. He takes zero shit from anyone and will always squeeze the best deal he can get. Unfortunately that is good sometimes (robbo, lennon) bad others (Berba, Arshavin). All we can hole for is he give's in on this one because we need someone with bottle in our midfield and fast.

1. I've got a job
2. Since when was "Obama supporter" an insult? I'd have thought "Bush supporter" was bad enough.
3. I appreciate your admiration for Dan & Arry, but at this critical stage I am not prepared to wait a fortnight for them to fuck up as I am a teeny bit worried that we'll be repenting at leisure from the confines of the Championship. Excuse my nervousness, but I have endured most home games this season and a continuation will probably see us facing QPR next year....

Obama supporter means that you have zero tolerance for interpretation - sarcasm doesn't exist. As someone living on the west side of the Atlantic, at least bush gave us stuff to laugh at, and we were allowed to laugh. Now we aren't allowed to laugh because it is racist! Anyway, I feel your pain and as I have to watch only a handful of matches on Sky Sports, I too don't wish to be looking up Wolves shorts but I do feel that we will hit a string of form again. We really need Palacios or someone like him and while we have only scored 4 goals in the last 6 matches, Defoe and whomever you match with him can score (maybe Bent excluded). Levy's issues are that over the last 2 seasons 50% of his business has been in the crapper - Bent, Berba saga etc. I do believe, even as nervous and pissy as I am, that we have a core team and with leadership on the field (King is done) and off (Finally an English man running an english f'ing club) we can come together. We have Stoke, Bolton, Arsenal, Hull, Sunderland & Middlesborough up next. We should be able if we hit form to take 12 points from these. At least 3 of these clubs are heading south faster than Harry's jowls - if Levy can pull off some magic - just one piece and get a Palacios fella in the mid, we are sitting mid-table or higher by the time we go to Villa.

Jan 19, 2009 at 3:19 PM | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Ah, mid-table. How I've missed your comforting touch.

I agree. Holding DM, another forward and would it be too cheeky to ask for a left-winger?

Yes it would be. To answer my own question.

We all know the truth - Harry has always been the media darling because he can't keep his mouth shut and they get a story. He has done a lot of talking when he didn't have to eg 'someone told me that Bellamy would like to play here. If a deal can be done then fine'. Put in a bid then shut it until the player is ours. If anything is published then the other clubs are to blame. Moral: Shut your big mouth Harry
