Modric. Again.

Another day, another Harry throw-away soundbite that gets savaged on like a pack of zombies eating through a bit part character in The Walking Dead.

This illustrates why Redknapp should just say 'no comment' or just decline an appearance (although he's probably the one inviting himself). Personally think he has said something off the back of something we already know. Luka wants to leave. That's different, very different to the club looking to sell him and then publicly and indirectly suggest that the player is refusing to play. Just a single soundbite chewed and spat out by the gaffer, and suddenly the player is on the verge of signing for Chelsea again.

Redknapp, hardly the articulate type, probably wasn't suggesting what the media are lapping up at the moment whilst they continue to push their Modric to West London agenda.

The player is injured, not fully fit. The additional commentary on the state of his head (last time I noticed it was still sitting on his neck) was unnecessary and is also pretty much common knowledge. It's like Harry can't help himself (consciously or subconsciously) by stirring it up a little bit by stating facts of truth that only serve to feed the hungry journalists and sports desks.

Breaking news...Modric's head hasn't been right from the moment the Daily Mail published that interview from the yacht.

Once more I refer you to:

Levy has stated its a closed matter and the player won't be sold.
Modric and agent agreed a 6 year contract, of the ilk of an actual gentleman's agreement where pen gracefully touched paper.

All the alleged engineering in the world won't change the fact that regardless of the fact that this now transcends the player himself (he is simply a chess piece), the club can not go back on their word. This is not the same as the Berbatov strike and United move.

Redknapp (you might have missed this particular soundbite) cited the fact the chairman wont sell the player. He probably just needs to read off a cheat sheet next time to avoid using the wrong terminology.

Onwards to the only thing that should matter today. United at Old Trafford. Spirit of '89 and all that.

Point and missed it.

You don't seem to understand that this isn't about Modric, where he wants to be or what we can get from him. I don't care about his head, where it is, whether he wants to be at Spurs or if he ever plays for us again.

This is about contracts, legaly binding. Tapping up and not being pushed around by the money-clubs.

Modric has been tapped up (see: Abramovich holidaying in Croatia). If we sell...because the money was too good/Modric had a strop/we feel we can cope/we're sick of his face....tapping up wins and Cheatski can come back and take ANY of our players, ANY time they want!

You want £35m? Bend over and lube up then...

This is not only about football. its about loss of credibility for Levy - but more importantly - about stopping us becoming a selling club> if we sell Modric, we follow the system of buying talent, turning them into great footballers and selling them on at a profit to a bigger club.

This has to stop and this is Levys way - Levys stand, this is his way of stopping the talent leak.

All you people who are fed up and dont give a damn - well wise up and give a damn because this will have an impact upon the club!!

Know where your coming from mate. I get it. Moral stand. Im not a halfwit, I know the argument. Used it myself during my times of mod-rage. Really I share the pain. I'd love to see modric rot in the reserves and given time to think about how naughty he's been. Truly I want this to happen. But it won't. It might do football good and it might make us happy, but it won't help the club to be paying another 50k a week to a disinitereted reserve. And say what you like about levy's way of doing biz, but he is pretty transparent. He'll bluster and rage about right and wrong but at the end of the day he'll take the option thats financially best for spurs.

He's gone. My only hope os that he doesn't go to chelsea, or if h does, thats its for stupid money that will harm their spending power and wage bill going forwatd

Modric can love off.
What I'm concerned about is the fact that BAE has the afro poof.

Oh dear. That second half was really quite disturbing. Didn't expect a win, but didn't expect to get carved up like that either.

Plan B?

Typical United im afraid. Play it about nice and easy in the first half knowing we cant huret them, and then, up the tempo in the 2nd half, speed up the game and we are done - as usual.

Very depressing!! Thanks Modric for taking away the focus of the entire team, thanks Levy for standing by and doing nothing in the transfer market again!!

Im sick of Harry and his big mouth -i can just hear the interview - hard to compete, injured players, they have great players, it will be a struggle to get to 4 etc, etc, etc.

Im so f@@@ing fed up with the entire football thing. quickly. We simply cant compete with the top 3 and maybe 4 anymore unless we pay big bucks for players and big wages - its as simple as that.

Two things ive been going on about on this forum:

1. VDV is THE BIG problem and he is the one that needs to go. There is no balance in the team.
2. The entire back room staff needs to be changed. I simply cant beleive that we have so many injuries - zero games into the season.

What on earth is going on????? Will someone please tell me!!!!!

Bottom of the table. Is it too early to mention relegation? Forget Stratford, why don't we move to Scotland so that we can actually compete. In all seriousness, I think Harry will get fired or just call it a day this season. This Modric thing is turning out to be an encore of the Berbatov saga and that awful season.

Actually, 8 games - 2 points - that will be a laugh!!!

Aug 22, 2011 at 10:33 PM | Unregistered Commenterhotspurs

Well said Hotspurs, agree with everything you said.

We have so many weaknesses in the side. Dawson is terrible, at fault for at least 2 of the goals, if not all 3, VDV is a complete waste of space with an ego the size of Africa but a delivery the size of Anglesey, Lennon and Bale should be carving out chances or pushing through the middle to score, but 1 tackle on Bale and he disappears and Lennon, well where was Lennon in the 2nd half? Livermore was a spectator today...not criticising as he is young, but then so are Cleverly and Wellbeck.

I know we were missing Sandro especially today, and Niko proved he isn't a CM replacement for Modric, but even so there was no coherence out there, no fitness levels, no organisation, no leadership and with the window closing in 9 days it's probably too late to fix it now.

City will rip us a new one next week even if we have new signings this week.

We need a new CB, and tbh Cahill didn't look very good yesterday so maybe Samba is a better bet (don't know enough about either really) and 2 strikers not one, but at the moment none looks more likely.

On this sort of display we'll be lucky to have 2 points from 8 games. Yeah, Utd. are the Champions but they were not that good FFS...even Anderson scored!

Very depressing.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I fear what we saw could very well be our future without Modric and additions to the team.
Yes VdV is a huge problem and until we can find some perfect striker for him to partner with I do seriously wonder if he detracts more than he adds. As has been stated before the same useless strikers we had did get us into CL. German friends have reminded me how awful VdV was in his second year at Hamburg.
We have no creativity. I trend a little more towards the trust in 'Arry camp but I am starting to really wonder if he knows what a tactic is. We are predictable and toothless and unless we figure out a way to improve our team we are headed for midtable mediocrity for years to come. Levy, the time is now to go long or risk years of stagnation.
